338-06

Because of shoulder damage, I shoot a 6.5x55.

Now for full disclosure, If I was limited to one cartridge, it would be the 338-06, with 225 grain bullets.

Like you, I have a Model 70 with a blind magazine and original walnut stock. It has a 1-10 twist Gaillard barrel and a 3# trigger.

It shoots at least as well as your rifle and does everything I have ever asked of it.

The rifle was built with rough use in mind and it, along with the Shepherd scope, have rolled under horses, spent two days floating along the bottom of the Prophet River, until it came to rest in an eddy pool. It survived a nasty quad crash and came out of all of it still holding zero.

You made a great choice. Nice rifle overall and it will serve you for a long time.

One thing though, there isn't a lot of sense in shooting lighter bullets. The 338-06 really shines with the 225 grain projectiles, right out to 500 yards. Further, if you're a better shot than I am or at least better at judging trajectory

I have had 7 rifles build by RMR they all shoot real well for a hunting rifle. My 6.5/300 WSM shoots 1 1/2 groups at 300 yards all day, best I've shot was 5/8 at 300 with it, don't know if I can do it again. My other RMR all shoot under 1 inch at 100 yards.
