Good day all, in the process of acquiring components for an edge build, just wondering if there's any advice or input from any of you who have had one. Pictures welcome!

What i have so far:
Rem 700 action to be used as donor(300win mag currently)
HS precision LA BDL stock
Bertram 338 edge Brass

I plan to shoot 300 gr Bergers for ELR and hunting loaded long so it will be single shot. I know to get the best out of the edge you need a long barrel so i intend to run a 30" (not sure what brand, profile, or twist yet(1-9.3 or 1-10) i hear 1-10 can get a little more speed. Also realize that im gonna need a pretty long case to fit this into, i think there is a storm case that will work. But im really hoping for at least 2800fps with H1000 at an accurate node.

Just wondering what experience you guys have had and if there's any pointers. I know the rifle will likely be heavy but i don't want to build an anchor either as the rifle with see the odd hunting trip.

Thanks

I had one built on a savage action for a short period of time. Really liked it. Avoid Federal brass. Mine lasted 1-2 firings before the primer pockets were toast. Mine was 28" I ran IMR 7977 Pretty sure I was a bit north of 2800 fps with the 300 Bergers.
The barrel was a McGowen prefit. Savage bull profile maybe? It wasn't overly heavy.
However I had the bullets seated out far enough that I couldn't unload a loaded round without taking the bolt out. Clearly single shot as well.
Kinda wish I kept it, but at the time brass was impossible to find and everything about it was overly expensive for me.

I intend on building another big bore something er other in the future.

Mine is a Canyon Rifle built by Defensive Edge on a Bat repeater. Fluted 1-10 30" Hart Barrel, HS precision stock, Jewel trigger, Carlock brake Wyatt mag-box. Have a 5.5/22 Nightforce on it. Shoots like it has eyes.

If you are determined to go hunting with yours; give some serious thought to going carbon fiber on the pipe. 15+ pound rifles are shooting machines for long range from prone but nearly useless for anything else.

Start with H1000 and as likely as not finish with H1000 as well.

I have one built by ATRS, trued up 700, timney trigger, bolt stop trimmed, MCM A-5, 30" mtu rock creek barrel with ATRS gill brake. I run h1000 with the 300 berger and get around 2850fps. I ran Nosler brass for a while, good but soft. I swapped to bertram, tougher brass, I get a few more loads from it.

I second Dogleg's comment- if you plan on doing anything but long range plinking with it go with a CF wrapped barrel. The extra length and weight makes the rifle a PITA for anything other than being close to the truck and laying prone.
If I was going to do it over again I would stronglh consider a bullpup setup- either defensive edge lrkm or dta srs1. The DT would be in a 338 Lapua since thats whats available. If I was going with a standard style rifle then I wouldn't go more than a 28" barrel.

curious cat here. So, compared to a 338 LM, which I run the 300 otmh bergers at around 2825 using h1000. What advantages does the edge offer over a 338 lm?

The only "advantage" is that it fits and feeds in a regular magnum rem700 action (or clones) with less work than a Lapua case. Lots of smiths don't like to do a Lapua case in an action with the bolt diameter of a rem or clone. For the Americans they seem to have limited access to Lapua brand brass- which is really the big bonus of going to a 338 Lapua- the excellent brass. With equal quality brass the edge does has an advantage of action fit.

Really, none. Remington put it out as 338RUM for a reason. With the 338 bullets longer, they made it with a little shorter case so the 700 action can Cycle effectively.
The edge with the bullet seated high to allow case capacity, no commercial reapeter action can Cycle them. and its the same for the LM. I wish someone will get smarter and stop waist time with the @#€¥ 700 foot print and built around what the cartridge can be.
