I am gathering the parts for a .338 Edge and the smith and me got talking about breaks. He likes holland and can get them quick and easy. I like the 4 ports of the defensive edge break (the look anyways) but I see holland also came out with a new radial break that suppose to be better than there QD break. Basically Iam asking what are you using and do you like it? If you have another type of gill break please post a pic. Looking for a gill type thats threaded on not clamped. Thanks.

I have used the Vais Brake and currently have that on a 300WM. I dislike that it kicks up dirt into my eyes and face when shooting prone. I bought a DE Brake for my 338 Edge and like the fact that it does not have top ports like on the Holland. I have heard that the gases coming out of the top ports can be a distraction from spotting hits. That said I have yet to shoot the Edge, soon I hope.

I have a Holland QD on my 338 Lapua - amazingly effective and highly recommended.

The holes in the top of the brake eliminate nearly all muzzle jump, which is important of these big boomers if you want to spot your shots.

my ATR stops the recoil of the 338 too but the gun is heavy as an elephant tooo

Daniel, you've got to do more pushups. There is something powerful about packing a heavy gun. LOL Just like pick'n up a 50BMG. That thing isn't suppose to feel feather light. And when that 300GR bullet touches something and destroys it, it's a beautiful thing. :50cal:

seriously though, the downside to a lot of brakes out there is that the manufacturer makes the ports parrallel to ground and because of this, the gases end up disturbing the ground close to the shooter showering him with dirt and debree. The ATRS brakes are built with this in mind so they are angled up so that when the gases finally do reach the ground they've dissipated enough that you don't get a signature.

I've got the Badger FTE on mine. No worries about indexing problems if you need to remove, effective, easy to clean without removing. Great brake.

I have the Holland QD brake on my Edge and a few other rifles and can spot trace without any problem.
The QD is one of the more effective brakes on the market and if there were a downside to the brake it would be to the shooter beside you...
I wear ear plugs and muffs when shooting beside a big braked rifle and I throw extra plugs and muffs in my shooting bag for those beside me...If the shooter beside me looks ill equipped (they usually are) I offer to loan them some of my gear......they get to keep the ear plugs:puke:
Problem solved!

I spread out a shooting mat and if I'm shooting in loose soil or sandy conditions I'll add a ground cloth. So I may not have noticed any serious signature issues.
Perhaps I am missing something here, but I really couldn't care less about signature......I don't expect the deer to start shooting back! :D

Hey Glock,

I had a look through the ATRS website and couldn't find the brakes. Do you guys sell them separate or do you only sell them as an install.

What you say makes sence and I'd like to try one out. What do they cost?

Dave

I don't think he will mind, but here is a pick of Ricks 50 being shot. It is off a bench, but you can really see where everything is being dispersed. Lots out to the side, and there is almost a nice neat little triangle downward.

And they all look like that no matter what rifle, 308, 338 or 50, the 50 just showed the most "smoke".

Dave at the moment we are just making them as we need them for our builds, this will change once we get moved and the new CNC machines up and going.
Don't have a price worked out right now on them due to the inefficient way I am making them right now, but once we get a run of a hundred or so will be able to figure out what the cost will be based on time and material that is actually used per brake.
Alot is going to change here in the next 2 months, all for the good.:D
