.338 Federal

At the moment I believe only Sako, Tikka and Ruger are chambering the .338 fed.
I think it would make a fine round if it performs as well Federal says it will.;)

In a perfect world Savage would bring back the 99 chambered for this round. but truth be told I'd settle for it in any of their rifles.

P&D has a Tikka T3 Lite in .338 Federal on their used rack that doesn't look at all used...for $599. I've been in there half a dozen times to heft it. ;)

338 Fed

The 338 Federal does nothing that the 358 Win hasn't done for years....the world needs the 338 Federal like a fish needs a bicycle.
Just new rubber on an old wheel to sell to another generation.........

And what is wrong with that? Without new sales the manufacturers will go tits-up and without new firearms being brought to market new shooters will be less likely to start shooting. Without new shooters our way of life is facing extinction.

So if you want to talk about redundancy everyone could junk whatever cartridge they now use and all of us could shoot bolt action 30-06s for the rest of our lives without being hampered at all.

I have a Tikka T3 in 338 Federal. So far the results have been fantastic. I have been using 185 grain Barnes triple-shocks over 47.7 grains of Varget in Winchester cases using 210M primers. I am getting 2715 fps and grouping a half inch at 100 yards.

I've never used a factory round in the gun, just my own loads. Recoil on the bench is a bit stout, but free-hand standing is not too bad.

Considering you use double the powder for a gain of ~400 fps in a 338 Lapua Magnum, I thing this round acquits itself quite nicely.

338

I have one on a mod 70 crf with a 24'' montana.Iwas getting 2800 &change with 180 accu,49g r15.But was getting pressure signs .I think I'll back her off a grain & start over.Haven't tried the barnes x yet. robin

Great to hear about some real world performance with this cartridge and the rifles chambered for it. :) Thanks Guys!

(Maybe I should jump on that T3 Lite at P&D...)

Id like a 338 Federal. Holding a shell, it reminds me of the 260's big thug brother. A stainless Remington Seven with a nice stock and a lower powered Leupold would fit nicely in my gun cabinet :D
