.338 Federal

Anyone that says they can tell the difference, on game, between the 308 win, 338 fed, and the 358 win, is only fooling themselves, not me.

I shot a bull moose with a 338wm at 275yds, and another with my 308 at 290 yds, and guess what, they both died. I'm sure the second one wasn't thinking, "I'm glad he only has a 308" :).

For killing purposes, all standard cartridges between 25 and 35 cal are the same.

Load up some 300 grain bullets for your .308 and then tell me they are both the same ;)

Load up some 300 grain bullets in your 338 fudd....oh wait a minute those will be a little long no ? Better pick up a 338 WM .:p

A: Why the snarky reference? 338 "fudd"? I guess theres gotta be one guy being an ass in every thread.....

B: Once again, reading comprehension just shines here at CGN. I quoted a post, and commented directly on what was quoted....and we were talking up to 35, and yes...300 is easy in a 35 (although not at all un-doable in a 338)

Feeling a little inadequate with the .338?

I have a .358Win, mines bigger than yours! :p

Nope! If I'm feeling inadequate I'll grab the 375....or the other 375....or the 416....or the 460.....or on a really bad day the 50BMG

Hey, the 358 may be bigger than my sweetheart 338....but I gotta say, I'd rather have smaller (but young and effective) than bigger (but really old, and not functioning where it could be ) ;) :D

Traditional Fudd folklore would have the 358Win as heads and shoulders over the 308Win and 338Fed. no matter what bullet weight is used.

Just cuzzzzzz.

Ive owned a Sako 85 & currently a Ruger m77 Hawkeye in a McMillan stock (2.5-8x36 B&C vx3)

Great cartridge, really love the efficiency in which is pushes out a pretty big bullet. Versatile too, Ive shot everything from 160gr TTSX @ 2950 fps, 185gr TTSX @ 2750 fps, 200gr @ 2650 fps, 225's @ 2500 and even 250gr Hornady round nose @ 2325 fps

With a 185 or 200gr bullet it's a 400 yard rifle in the hands of someone who knows how to shoot. Kicks like a 270

I also know that powders are not available yet to reload to factory specs, seems to fall just a little short, what do you guys who handload have to comment on this?

46.5 grs IMR8208xbr does 2675 fps with both 200gr Accubonds and 200gr Ballistic Silvertips. 48.5grs with 185gr TTSX does 2750 fps. This is close enough to factory numbers to not bother mentioning

I didn't say it was easy to get ammo for. I said that the all-knowing Fudds will choose the 358Win cuz it's better. It's not only good, it's good for you. ;)

OTOH ....... 338Fed would be very hard to find here in NB as well as 358. Don't know about where you live, but a non-loader here is best served with a 30/06, 270W, 7Mag, 308, 303Brit, 30/30.

in BC, even small gun shops in towns of 4000 people will carry a few different 338F factory offerings. Its the NEW 30-06
