338 Federal?

If I see him again his ass is gunna have a .338 slug in it and he'll be in my freezer.
Maybe not if u shoot it there ;)
Of course you're baiting and sitting in a tree, so it's not like you're really hunting...
Just like baiting a hook makes it not really fishing

but back on topic - i often wonder why Remington didn't push the .338 Fed in their Model 7 rifles. super light, short guns, with a serious thump. seems to be a winner to me...

They don't chamber either 338 or 358 b/c the one is a "Federal" the other a "Winchester" so they push down our throats 350 mag b/c it's a REMINGTON....the last one being a little over the top in that small rifle. I am so happy being able to rebarel and chamber any action or any cartrige myself b/c brand name shouldn't be an obstacle to rifle's usefullness IMO.

I think Amphibious is right that the 338 and 358 would find a very natural home in the M7. As to gunrunner8's idea that Remington didn't want to chamber for Federal and Winchester creations, that is also true I think. But I noticed with interest that they chambered some M7s in the last few years in Winchester's 300WSM - a little "over-the-top" too maybe(?). Click on specifications here - http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire/model-seven/model-seven-cdl.aspx
I bet they really had to suck it up to do that considering they had their own short mags to promote.

Incidentally I happen to love my over-the-top (no argument) M7/350RM custom KSs - yes two now. I don't have your skill to rechamber but like em as they are anyway (my M600 and M660 too). But I'm a little unusual in my preference of light weight small and powerful 35 thumpers for hunting. However I see your point that the 338 and 358 in a M7 would be a more sensible choice for most.

Well booboo bear screwed up and came back fir a third appearance. 338" hole into the brisket, 2" hole out his back end, put a second one into his chest broadside as he was running away, fist size exit...poor feller he was cute.

Which is why I'll be rebarrelling mine :D . Think I'll do a 21-22" pipe and one contour heavier than the std. 260 as well just to put some weight into the front of the gun.

Congrats on the bear. Take any photos?

Nah not photo worthy. Just a couple giant exit holes and some delicous, tender meat in the freezer

Next on the agenda is Moose (Oct. 5th). The Federal may see some action using a 225 Accubond

Anyone else packin the little 338 that could?

The Model 7 is available in .350 RemMag which imo trumps .338/.358, so I don't see why Remington would bother. Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of the .358 Win, basically .338 "Improved" :). I just don't see the point of a .338, too much of a split the difference between .308/.358.

Hi, shooters choice in arrowwood has a kimber m-84 in 338 fed.these are a great little rifle,I have one 308 win.bubba69

I would be very intersted. What profile and how much? Are you able to make barrels less than 18"? I wouldn't mind a 16.5".

16.5" is AWESOME in this cartridge....that's why I snapped this up
