338 Federal?

The Model 7 is available in .350 RemMag which imo trumps .338/.358, so I don't see why Remington would bother.
I basically agree but if they bothered they might sell a lot more M7 rifles I guess. Lots (many, most?) ##### about the 350RM recoil so don't buy. They find the detuned version (338/.358) more agreeable - I just learned to deal with the recoil if/when using my lightweight 350RM's and appreciate the extra thump/range - but the majority are turned off by lightweight heavy kickers.
That'd be an interesting combo with a 250 hornaday round nose
Yep an interesting and an effective hunter- I use 250s often in my 338 Improved (358Win):p with the 16 1/2" tube - same model rifle and mods as Wrong Way's - cept I dropped mine into a canoe paddle stock, got a ramp/bead up front, a NECG peep, and a 4x Leup compact. Love it and may get it out moose hunting in a month.

Very nice setup Whelen. Some day when I have the money Im gonna pick up a used Hawkeye .358 Imp. :)p) and do the barrel chop and install a high quality ghost ring setup...perfect for a lot of the hunting scenario's in my neck of the woods.

Only if chambered in .358 Imp though...

Anyone else packin the little 338 that could?

200 yards? I shoot to 400 with mine regularily. Its point and shoot out to 300 yards (9" of drop with a 200 yard zero) and point, twist (turret) and shoot out to 400. Even then a 225 Accubond is holding more than enough energy to kill stuff :)

i sighted in for a shorter distance 150 yd zero(like 3 inch vitals) to keep rise and drop lower. as i do take tighter shots with this gun. as i am usually on a push or in brush . 200 yds zero makes poi shift too much for confident above the shoulder shots or threading the needle through dense brush. i know it can shoot flat well but i have other rifles that shoot flat better.

The best powder I've used is AA2230 for either 185 TSX or 160 TTSX. Its been real accurate and the chrono's results are surprising at being 50-100 fps faster than the other powders I've tried.

It launches a 160 TTSX at 3030 fps. This load went thru one shoulder, two ribs and hung up under the opposite hide on a moose at 125 yards.

Loaded with a 210 TTSX there is nothing on the NA continent that couldn't be taken within 300 yards.
