.338 Federal???

I have not seen the bottom metal... But you would require the rechamber and new magazine for sure, and possibly also new bottom metal and stock inletting... Perhaps someone with a T3 could comment... It might be cheaper to rebarrel a .30/06 to .338/06 rather than rechamber a .338F to .338/06???

You will need a new magazine but the T3s bottom is the same. No need for I letting the Tupperware stock either. He won't need a new barrel.

great cartridge for 95% of hunting. Not very popular due to muzzle velocity numbers than don't have enough 000's in it. A shame, since its a mild recoiling big game killer.

I've owned and used a 35 Whelen since the 1960s, owned and used a 338-06 for almost 30 years and I fail to see much difference aside from bore dia.
How can one be more of a " headache " than the other ?..... please elaborate..

I think he was saying that the OP could just go out and buy the Whelen, rather than going to the trouble and expense of rechambering etc another caliber... In essence he is agreeing with you.

Yup :)

I want SC to post his map of eastern canada again :)
This one?

I'm not seeing that. Perhaps you posted the wrong chart?

It's always interesting to see numbers posted which are the lowest one can find for a cartridge being "bashed", and the hottest one can find for the other. "My 338 WinMag with 250 grain PowerPoints out of a 18" barrel is slower than a 338 RCM with 210 Hornady Superformance out of a 24" bbl. Evidently the RCM outperforms the Winmag."

The 338 Federal is a necked up 308. There's no magic in it.

That chart is skewed and numbers are "@ the muzzle"... look at the numbers at 200/300/400 yards and the separation will be evident... having said that, the Fed is very capable... it just isn't magic.

Sorry for the lag time. Busy hunting. Performance was overall. Yes, each of these do actually launch a few hundred FPS faster, but do so with quite a bit more recoil. If I need to kill game at 2km, then I might need those, but at my hunting distances, to fill my niche, out to 400yds, they are not needed. And it is a short action. I should have stated that criteria when I posted the chart instead of later.
