I understand that ammo is not available for .338 Imperial, but if a feller was to roll his own, what is the best way to get there? I know the parent case is .404 Jeffries, necked down to the .338, but what would one do to build rounds for one of these rifles?

For some people, it is important to have the correct head stamp on the case, for the rifle - if that is you, then pretty much limited to gun show purchases - I do not think those rounds are commercially loaded by anyone, any more, although I could be mistaken.

If the head stamp does not matter, I do not think it is very different from making any other case into something else - you will need Imperial 338 sizing dies - probably - then a parent case that is at least big enough to reform and then trim to length - or some people are happy with cases that have too short necks compared to original.

A quick look at Wikipedia suggests that one is circa 0.543"/0.545" for the head and rim - so is larger diameter than most common belted cases - gonna be a big fat bugger!!!

Search this site, and IAA. There is a ton of info out there on them, and a number of threads on here too. I posted all the scans I had, but gave all the sales brochures etc that I had away quite a while ago. Try the hunting forum

I was toying with building one of these a couple of years ago. I came across a set of dies, a bunch of virgin brass, some reloads in new brass and a few boxes of once fired brass. All with the imperial head stamp.
I done a bunch of research on the rifle and found that the brass was of poor quality and that was why the rifle never took off. There was a bunch of politics involved also. I can’t recall to be exact but it was one of the RUM cartridges, the 375 i believe, that was also based off of the 400 Jefferies that would work instead of the poor quality Imperial cases. Just had to run it through the full length sizer and check the length. One thing lead to another and never did get the project off the ground.
