I have 2 friends that have purchased 338 L.M. and both have serious issues
1st- Savage tac. gun has less than 50 rounds through it- bolt came apart -broken very very lucky my friend never squeezed off the round, said it had a strange feel and sound as he chambered the round.Gun back to Savage ,he waits and waits\
2nd -Remmington long range hunter, less than 30 rounds though it ,lapua brass showing early signs of incipient case head separation - clear ring around the brass 1/2 " up from the base.
Are these anonmaies? anyone else having grief?

"...anonmaies?..." Anomalies?
"...showing early signs of..." Far more likely to just be the cases stretching. That's normal.
"...bolt came apart -broken..." As in disassembled or in pieces? That isn't normal.

bolt busted ,Savage seemed very concerned but as of yet have not got back to him
deffinatly not normal case stretch on the Remington, and it was not cheap brass

Have you reached down in the case with some wire to feel for a crack? Brand new brass or reloads? FL sized all the way to the shellholder each time? If its brand new brass and really showing signs of case head separation then it may have excessive headspace, or could be a bad batch of brass. Narrow down the easy stuff first.

I have seen this on a savage chambered in 300 win also, the gun belonged to a young guy in sask, they do reload their own ammo so not sure if that contributed to the bolt head busted.

on the remmy the brass was brand new and not loaded hot, this was to be development loads for a decent moose recipe (yes at long range) but no were near max loads.
