Hi All,
After much trial and error I managed to finalize my loads for my 338. After using a couple techniques to determine the optimal COAL, and tinker with my dies, I loaded my first round. Unfortunately the length of the cartridge was too long for the magazine for my Blaser Tac2. I shorted a bit, so the round would fit into the magazine, but then the transition from magazine when chambering was very choppy (the bullet would jam when entering the chamber). I previously used Nosler 338 rounds, that were about 5mm shorter, and they chambered from the magazine without any issue.
I was wondering if it is common when you optimize COAL to have these issues? Perhaps I should shorten the cartridge length for optimal magazine feeding?
Also - do you need to have a different cartridge length depending if you use 250 or 300 grain bullets?
I apologize if any of these questions sound ignorant- I am a newbie to the reloading field!
Cheers,
Mike
