338 Lapua Case Life

All my dies are RCBS the TRG -42 is the only one that wont accept neck sizing both my TRG-22 are neck size only with no issues and yes i run a hot load in the 338LM, that may be good to go to Reeding heard go thing about them in my 243 i go super hot on neck sizing only with no hard extraction... JP.

I just ran your data through QuickLOAD, and you are running around 60,000 psi, which, while up there, certainly isn't overly hot. Either way, neck sizing has nothing to do with hard extraction. Something else is the issue, and it's most likley very, very high pressure.

If i full sized i have no issues if i neck size only i get hard extraction one out of 2 rounds , neck sizing would actually raise the pressure, just wondering... JP.

Neck sizing shouldn't do anything to the pressure at all. It will affect the way the case fits in the chamber, and will allow you to work your brass a lot less. I've been reloading 338 Lapua since the early 90's (and everything else since the 70's), and I've never run into this. Check your chamber and headspace first of all, there is something odd going on. - dan

Neck vs FL....

If you are FL sizing .001 - .002 or so how much are you really taking away from your brass life...and no chambering issues...

I dont neck size for the 42 no more i just flsize and i do not have no issues extra accurate to... JP.

I had a Remington rifle that would not allow the cases that were just fired back into the same chamber! Extraction was no problem at all in the initial fireing. Upon closer examination the cases had a series of longitudinal ridges along the body of the case. When the factory did the chambering, they left the chamber horribly chatter marked! Sometimes Remington has horrible QC! Head space was good mind you and the silly thing shot like a house on fire! It was a 35Whelan. Groups ranged from just under 1/2" to 3/4"!!! Go figure! It just required a basic chamber clean up.

Neck sizing is the only way to go for a vast majority of precision rifles. Aids in case/chamber/bore alignment and works your brass less.
