.338 Lapua Load. Finally hit one. Target Pic.

I recently bought a Savage LRH in .338 Lapua. I was getting worried the rifle couldn't shoot. Then I got this at 200 yesterday. I'll step back after I pick up some more bullets and can load more. The single alone I pulled and I knew I did it. Otherwise there's 5 in that group in the centre. I'm more than happy. It can go elk hunting with me now.

The load is a 225gn Nosler Accubond over 98 grns of Ramshot Magnum seated to 3.730 in Hornady brass w/ Fed Gold Medal primers.

If anyone else has some pet loads for the lower weight .338 bullets, like 225grns and under, please advise. Everyone shoots 250+ it seems. Im looking for flat shooting w/ speed so the heavier bullets seem a moot point.
 
You'll find that the heavier bullets do better, as far as flat shooting goes. Faster, lighter bullets, shed speed very quickly, and are not the best for longer ranges.
If you are shooting less than 500 yards, then, IMO, it doesn't really matter, and the lighter bullets will be just fine.

Thanks Rman. I realize that, but I plan on using it for hunting maybe out to 500, so the 225's and even 200's appeal. It's just hard to find discussion on the lower end of thinks because for the reason you stated no one shoots them. I picked up some 250 Bergers and 285 Hornady's to try farther back, but am looking for an elk/moose cartridge for this season for both. I think the one above will be just fine. Problem of course is going to be finding powder.... I have 8 bullets ready to go, but wouldn't mind a few more.... Magnums's hard to find as it is though....
 
I also shoot the 225 grain Accubond in 338LM. Here's what I am using at present:

Bullet - 225 grain Accubond
Case - Lapua
Primer - Federal Gold Medal Match 215M
Powder - 100.0 grains of Retumbo
COAL- 3.69"
Avg. Velocity - 2875fps
ES ~ 11
