What are you guys using for powder for 250 ish bullets? I was planning on trying Retumbo and H1000 because of temp changes but would like to know your choices and why. I have some US 869 available to try out I think but have always managed to get good groups out of any powder I use so I usually just pick the powder that gives the best velocity. Anyone know what US869 is like for temps from + 20`C to -20`C? Anything on Vihtavuori power in wild temp changes? 28.5" Gaillard 1in10, Lapua brass FWIW

Cheers,
Rob

US 869 with Lupua brass, Fed primers, 250gr and 300gr bthp bullets seems to be a good combo for my gun. I have shot from +5`C to -20`C and from 100m to 700m and have found no problems so far. Post your results with this powder or any others.

Well instead of ordering a bunch more powder I think I'll give the US 869 a serious try first. It isn't too hard to test warm ammo through a warm barrel on a cold winter day. Waiting in the truck while things cool to test winter cold barrel shots isn't so tough either. Finding the time and ambition to do it when its 20 below is another story. Nobody seems to use Retumbo, I wonder why.

Cheers

My 2 cents worth, for the Lapua powders................ I have tried 4 different powders in my TRG42 and I have found that US 869 is the slowest in the velocity department. Next fastest is Reloader 25 , then Retumbo, and last is H1000 with the highest velocities.

All powders will give me groups in the 3/8 MOA range at 200 yards. Although at different velocities!! The fastest I have pushed the 250 SMK's is a tad above 3200 fps with H1000. Retumbo and H1000 have the smallest velocity speads. I have more work to do with US 869, and as far as Reloader 25 I will stay away from, I have started to get pressue signs at average velocity of 3040 fps.

I am trying to develop a load that will allow me to push 250 gr Lapua Scenars to 1900+ yards without going sub sonic, and the H1000 load I have will get me there!!!

As I said My 2 cents worth!! Hope this helps!!??

This one is 28.5" and I believe its a tight bore at .3295 or possibly .3290. I have some reamer bushings coming for the reamer I have, should be here any day now. Thanks to a certain CGN for the reamer btw.

apapro thanks for sharing. Did you have any pressure signs with the US 869? Just wondering how hot you loaded the stuff, caught me off guard the 869 showed lower velocity but then again how much difference was there? Your barrel details, lapua brass?

If anyone wants to PM me their load data I'll keep it to myself and say thanks now to save a pm. I certainly won't go directly by it but finding a trend is always nice.

I really want the 265gr RBBT aluminum tipped Wildcat but will have to wait until its ready. I was talking to Richard saturday but they are not ready yet, he is calmy optomistic about it being very soon but he cannot predict the future and therefore won't promise anything. He has others I can use though.

Cheers,
Rob
