i don't know if this the right thread but has anyone seen or used this round for hunting or can you even get rifles chambered in this round for civilians??

Absolutely!

Factory rifles by Sako - TRG 42 and their older TRG-S.

Shot one. They are indeed a thumper with some major recoil. That said it has great accuracy potential and can take anything on this continent. Brass and ammo are quite pricey so if you plan to get one and shoot a bit reloading is a must unless you have mucho $$$$$$.

Some of the dealers who advertise on this forum sell some beautiful units.

I believe Bronco Diddler shot a moose with one a couple years back

Lick my taint Bartell! :dancingbanana::D:dancingbanana:

Yup I shot a moose with my TRG-S two years ago. Dropped him where he stood with a 250 grain slug at 386 yards. I've shown the pics and told the story before, but it was a fun hunt, and like to tell it over and over ;)

Wow talk about hitting power, not only did the bullet gut the moose but it blew it into quarters and the bits ended up in the trees :D

Is it just my eyes playing tricks or does Bronco's Moose rack have two beams coming out of one side of the skull??? Of is it just an optical illusion? Nice animal in any event. I usually like to take smaller animals, rather than go for the monster bulls. Meat is usually a little more tender.

Hey bronco, you take that moose near Thompson? Maybe i should go visit my relatives next fall. - dan

Actually I shot it about a 7 hour drive from here, inland from Lake Winnipeg. I haven't always lived in Thompson so when I first started moose hunting my friends and I made our moose camp down south. I still make the journey there every fall to hunt with my buds. That's what its all about, hunting wouldn't be half as fun if there wasn't the comraderie. Yeah I could hunt moose pretty much out my back door, but the rums taste better in our camp....at least I laugh more after having a few there;)

Nope, they grew "normally" ;) Here's a different pic:D

Ah! Figured it was an optical illusion!:) Nice moose, just the size I like to take! Not too tough, & you get enough meat for the freezer, without running out too soon. My Dad shot a yearling bull a couple of seasons ago on opening day. (October 10th.) I think he dressed out at about 80lbs a quarter averaged. He had him 'et (as my grandfather loved to say) before Xmas!:) Good thing I had a license the same year, otherwise I'd be going through moose stew withdrawal!

I know someone who has a 338 Lapua Mag. Apparently it's best to get it sighted in quickly. After 11 or 12 shots off the bench, this fellow told me, his teeth started to loosen.
