338 Lapua Pet Load

My ‘pet’ coyote load for 338LM is the 250g Scenar pushed with 94g of Retumbo sparked with Federal 215M primers. If you’re shooting pet moose you might want to bump that load up a bit more.

I have some 250 AB and LRX. Did you get good accuracy with Retumbo and 250’s ?
I ran 7828 ?? powder for a while with the same 250g Scenar with good results but on the recommendations of my former gunsmith I switched to Retumbo. He was very competitive with his Accuracy International so i adopted his load for my TRG 42. No regrets, gopher killer to 1200 yards.

I started with the same as US military used in 338 Lapua the H1000 and 250 MK. In my first Lapua 92.0 with the 300gr Sierra MK in Lapua brass. That was back in 2012. Today I have Ramshot Grand for the 250’s and Retumbo for the 285 ELDM. In the US I think it was Black Hills that loaded 338 Lapua for the US Military.

Cue the tale of the time a LGS staffer almost sold a 338 Lapua to a first-time rifle buyer for his first deer hunt. Always annoying when there's a more experienced customer next in line, though.

Well, the moose would still be dead, and the .338 will do so with about 25% more recoil. LOL Hit you almost as hard as it hits the Moose.
Actually the recoil with the muzzle brake is very mild it’s a 14lb gun on tripods Arca Rail Mount for stand hunting 50 yards from moose camp. The Lapua will add an additional 500 yards to my range in the saddle for moose.

Well, if you are not carrying the gun around all day, and you need the extra range, and persons in adjoining camps have ear protection, have at it! ;)

That’s some great powders but I haven’t seen on the shelf here in Interior Alaska for a long time. Reloader 25/26 most excellent in Lapua with 250’s.
Yes, RL stuff is hard to find everywhere these days. H870 should be pretty easy to come by. I also got a surplus version called WC872, from GI Brass stateside some years back. Don't know where they ship to, but I was working and living in MT at the time, so I bought about 64 pounds off him. Down to my last jugs though. - dan
