Hello CGN.

I am wondering if anyone would be willing to share their recipes for .338 Lapua loads.

I have some Lapua 250 gr Lockbase and 300 gr Scenars along with Retumbo and H1000. I am trying to cook up something but so far I am not finding any formal loading data with these combinations.

The Lapua / Vihtavouri manuals do not list any data for Hodgdon powders and the Hodgdon online manual doesn’t have any data for those bullets.

Using Lapua’s recommended OAL of 3.602 for the Lockbase, Quickload is telling me I should be somewhere around 2800 fps using approx. 93 grains of Retumbo or 90.0 with H1000

Again using the Lapua recommended COAL of 3.861 for the 300 gr Scenars Quickload says about 90 gr of Retumbo or 88 gr H1000 should get me 2700 FPS.

Am I in the right ballpark or are these loads too hot?

I would very much appreciate any advice from shooters with first hand with experience using these bullet and powder combinations.

Hdy manual 10ed has H1000 powder with 250gn bullets. Starting load 77.9gn and 2300fps. Maximal load 92.6gn and 2700fps.

I have successfully used Quickload in the past to get a starting point for powder/bullets combo not available in manuals.
Run the QL simulation and choose a low to mid-range pressure load as a starting point. It has worked for me on 300WM, 30-06 and 17 hornet.

I don’t own this rifle anymore, but this was a very accurate load. Easy hits to the mile (1600m) and all the way out to 1900m.

PGW C-14 Timberwolf (1.0) .338LM:
300gr Sierra Match Kings (1:10" twist - 26”)
Lapua brass, Federal 215 magnum primers, 93.6gr Retumbo

CBTO (ogive) measurement: 2.966" (.010" jump) 2880fps (21c)
-approximately 600 rounds from 8 pounds of Retumbo
(trim length: 2.714”)

Lapua case life was pretty decent. With annealing every third firing, my average case life was 15 firings. I never had any loose primer pockets. But this was a stout load. Twin ejector marks on every piece of brass. But very accurate.

I’m playing with Imr 7977 enduron powder...215 m primer and hornady 285 eld x Ive reached 2600 FPS and had to stop my testing ..way too busy with work
I would like to try H50bmg ...reloaded 33..and 26 as well to see about getting the velocity up

I use N570 in my 338LM, it's one of the best powders for getting the heavies moving.
Rifle is a Defiance Ruckus with 31" IBI barrel (9 twist).

With 285gr eldms I'm running 94.4gr of N570 with a CCI 250 in lapua brass. Avg velocity is 2955fps. 2.935" CBTO, 20 thou off the lands. The loaded rounds fit/feed from a CIP-length mag (barely).

With 300gr Berger hybrids I'm running 91.5gr of N570 with 215Ms in Lapua brass, avg velocity of 2855fps. Running them 20 thou off as well, 2.932" CBTO (close to 3.85", single feed).

No pressure signs of any form with either load, load development (OCW) was all done at 28-30c.
