I've always shot 300gr hpbt, and got good results, but now I want to reach further and get equal accuracy if possible. I intend to switch to sierra 250gr hpbt and would like a bit of help getting up and running ASAP, so! Please point me in the right direction as to where a good start is for reloading data!

My components are:
Sierra 250gr Projectiles
Federal Large Mag Primers
Lapua and Nosler Brass
H1000 Powder

Weapon specs are:
PGWDTI C14 Action
26" barrel @ 1-10" Twist
6 Port Factory Brake
Chassis System Stock
(Basically a factory Timberwolf)

Throw your wisdom at me! I've only one month to prepp!

Wes!

Why do you want 250gr?

300gr in the .338 will be far superior reaching out.

.768 BC vs .587 , zero advantage to going lighter.

Hodgdon website lists everything you need for this adventure for data.

Also, stick to one brand and type of brass.

I would load some Berger 300gr OTM and see how the barrel likes it.

I would not be going lighter unless there is some restriction with the end use application. Higher BC, heavier bullets will fly much better the further you go.

I used some berger 300gr elite hunter going 2790fps and 300gr smk 2750fps at 1080 yards back to back and there was only .3 mil more drop with the smk, stick with what's working expecially if it's working and your on a timeline.

Have you tried the 285 ELD Match yet? If so what is you conclusion.

I've shot 300gr OTM's out to 1500m with good success. I have a slightly faster twist at 9.35 but 1:10 should still work. With Lapua brass, 94.0 grns. of Retumbo and Fed 215gmm primers there was good solid performance. I also shot Hornady 285 match and there was significantly more wind drift. At full value 10-15 km wind the hit rate was double with the 300 vs the 285's. Mind you I was seeing slightly more velocity from the 300's so that is not a surprise. A Timberwolf should handle the pressure just fine. I figure if you could get 100ft/sec more velocity with the 285's than the 300's it might be a wash. Your rifle will tell you what is the best way to go. Mine won't tell anyone but me.
