Well today was the day. I went out & picked me up a new .338 Savage Lapua :D :dancingbanana:
Im very happy with the way it feels, surprisingly light for what it is. I was kinda worried about the cheek piece but its fitting just fine, & is adjustable (of coarse). I spent over a hour cleaning it when I got home . All in all I really, really do like the rifle. Next up optics then reloading. Feel free to give your advice. The guy I bought it from was very helpful & shoots one himself at our local range.
Any way just wanted to share my purchase with you all & thanks for the help ;)
Here's a picture enjoy.

Well ditch that rail first off!!! , Unless you wanna just shoot to 500 meters.

I just purchased the same rifle, EGW is making a 40 MOA base for me, you are gonna need it. ;)

Very nice. First thing I would recommend is bed that stock/action.

Stout rings cause the muzzle brake is going to shake things up alot.

go have a ton of fun...

I have Bergers 300gr OTMs instock. Not much else available these days.

I am currently shopping for one of these beast anybody knows who has the best price?

You guys can pm me if you prefer.

Thank you in advance!

I paid $1089 at wholesale sports $100 more at Cabela's. I like the history of the Lapua Its rather unique. Im sitting here watching hockey with my new Lapua on my coffee table!!! Very happy day!!!! Thanks for the suggestions please keep them coming. As for optics I was thinking Leupold B&C or a Zeiss with the (I think) the z-plex due to the fact I'm not really into playing with turrets & I was told constant playing with the turrets knocks out the scope????
I need to mention I really like the stock its got a really good quality/sturdy but comfortable feel. I really want to see what the long range grouping is on it.

You don't need a 40 MOA rail, I used a 20 moa rail on my TRG 42 for years with no problem shooting out past a mile. Whatever optics you get, make sure it has good glass and try to go for a larger tube, 34mm or 35mm, they usually have more internal adjustment. Other than that, nice rig, enjoy!

Constant playing with the turrets won't knock out the scope but several lower brands do not have reliable repeatability. The Vortex Viper PST comes to mind. Lots of people had very high hopes for these scopes but it turned out that they would not reliably return to zero. Makes things hard to hit with first round shots.

Enjoy your new Boomer!

If a person or dealer recommends a scope cause it has a nice reticle to avoid turning the knobs, listen, believe them and go to another more appropriate brand of scope.

There are several brands on the market today that dial all day long and happily repeat their tracking. We use them in F class and other forms of competition shooting.

Costs do not necessarily have to be high to do this. I have an old Bushnell Sportmans that I dialed on my rimfire for years. never failed to hit the mark from 25yds to as far as I wanted to go which was a good long ways for a rimfire. Picked it up at a gunshow for $25 - got lucky.

There are scopes that will work, and there are many more then will not (some pretty pricey ones too).

Thanks and its a great looking gun and I am sure you have years of fun out of it!

Unfortunately they don't have the 110 FCP HS (SKU: 19481) I am looking for will keep searching.

Hey it looks nice. I hope you like it but.... lol.... with a lapua i never thought of "Light" as being a plus. Enjoy. Btw... Tiger Balm is good for bruises.

I personally think that just holding over with reticle does not give you perfect repeatability, Dialing is the only way to achieve this. Get yourself a repeatable optic to match your rifles performance capabilities. I have no personal experience with them yet, but I would be looking towards a Sightron before anything if budget is on the brain, which I assume is not too far of a reach if you are already looking at Ziess. If not maybe a Nightforce is up your alley as well or a Mark IV. You have a few very good options availible to you. I am currenty shooting with a 6500 elite (which has been tracking great) after selling my Ziess, I found the the reticle busy and was not satisfied with hold over only for any sort of percision work, and I had found the Ziess (one inch tube) to run out of internal adjustment too quickly. Just my two cents, enjoy your new toy!

Thats a really good point about the reticle being busy, may even distracting??? I am a firm believer that with rifle scopes its not always true that you get what you pay for. I have a $50 bushnell Buckhorn on my 7mm & its very reliable & holds true, problem is it seams rare to get lucky like that with a cheap scope. Ive always wanted to upgrade it but why change it if its working. The other concern I have if I were to take it hunting & put in a gun boot on the quad would the turrets be at risk of damage or being knocked out? As for barrel life I heard its good to 2000 rounds but that's unconfirmed & I really have no idea?
