So Ive decided Im going to buy myself a new 338 Lapua. I had one when remington made the 700 p in it and I regretably sold it. Ive started looking this past week and the rifles that have caught my attention are the Sako TRG-42, Accuracy international, PGW,Barrett. I looked at the savages and the remington, Ive decided I want something a bit higher quality. Does anyone have any of these? What you think of the fit and finish, accuracy and over all quality of these rifles? Are there any others out there worth looking at?

PGW or AI, are both garunteeed winners . If you can , fondle both and pick which one fits better . At that point in terms of quality you can't really go wrong with either

I have the Remington 700 .338 and I like it, I managed to get a really well put together one and it is surprisingly accurate for a stock remington.

That said, if I had the cash and didn't go for a custom build, I would go with a PGW for sure.

I have some time behind all three of your choices and own a AI(the short action thou). The bad news is you have a very had decision to make, the good news is you can't make a bad choice. All three are great quality rifles and all three have the potential to be very accurate. The AI's have the advantage of end user barrel swaps, but from everything I have heard and see PGW's costumer service is top notch with quick turn around.

Like I said can't go wrong either way but I would vote:
1 - AI
2 - PGW
3 - TRG

I had this same quandary last fall and did a bunch of research on everything out there, and decided not to spend huge dollars on a gun I will only shoot 4-5 times a year but still wanted very accurate, and finally decided on the Armalite AR-30A1. Wolverine had them on sale this winter. They're maybe not as blingy as my AI stuff but a fair bit cheaper and as well and, by all the reports I have read and people I've talked to, very accurate. The trigger in it is actually very good stock, and the brake on it works fantastic. My buddy was so impressed with mine, he bought Wolverines last one in stock. I'm sure they could probably source another for you though.

Curious in pricing of pgw in the timberwolf and coyote? Not to hijack the thread but am mutually interested in the topic?

Wow, life is tough! :) I have a custom 700 338 but if I bought factory it would be a PGW - my bud has one and it is an amazing rifle. After that either the Sako or the AI are both fine - I visited the AI factory in the UK and can attest to their quality but I personally like the Sako stock more so I probably would go for the Sako TRG before AWM. The Sako sub-MOA guarantee doesn't hurt at all either.

As mentioned both are very good. I own an AI and will eventually get a PGW also. The T-wolf has the serviceability advantage being in Canada. Both have bolt mounted safety's and nice triggers. With the AI you can change your own barrel in a few minutes but it takes time to get a barrel ordered in. PGW can re barrel your rifle pretty quickly. Both rifles are very finely machined and run beautifully.

The AI's now have double stack mags in all calibers including 338. Another nice feature that I like is the cocked firing pin indicator. Then you have 60 and 90 degree bolt throws and both now have right side folding stocks.
Another thing that is new is the AXMC338 is now available with a 308 bolt, barrel and mag well adaptor so you can fire 338 lap mag and 308 Win interchangeably from the same rifle ( if that sort of thing floats your boat).

It's a tough call for sure, that's why my plan is to own both ;)

I am hot for the barret MRAD, I played with one when Barney brought one out west from wolverine. It made me happy in my pants

My two picks would be the timberwolf or MRAD based on using/handling both

I have shot a few off your list. Personally my choices are:

PGW
AI
Remington
Sako
I didn't get the warm and fuzzy feeling from the Sako. I own the Remington and it is an excellent shooter, and I have not yet shot an AI, but it's an AI, so no worries there.

PGW timberwolf is very nice rifle. I seen there was a custom built 338 on the EE last week that was one of pgw's early builds built on a model 70 action with a spiral fluted bolt if you looking to save some money.

The PGW is #1 on my list with a close second going to the TRG. I think the design of the TRG is flawless and it functions perfectly every time. Ross and Steve however are great guys and I would prefer to support them and lets face it, the Timberwolf plays second fiddle to nobody.
