I think it's a niche market cartridge, but a good one. There isn't much in that bore range/power level in lever rifles except the .358 Winchester. The idea is sound, but people are so jaded by the huge number of cartridge introductions in the last 15 years that few will give it a chance. Ditto the .308 Marlin. Lots of people will "wait for it to catch on" before they'll buy it. Still more will warn prospective buyers to wait for it to catch on. I even saw a post to the effect of "Why would you buy a rifle that will be obsolete by the time you leave the store?"
Upshot: it may not catch on due to lack of sales. I'd like to be more positive but just look at the .307, .356 and .375 Winchesters. Great ideas discontinued due to lack of sales. I don't think they were bad ideas, or people wouldn't be paying $600+ for used Model 94's in chamberings that didn't sell well in the first place.
But while Marlin and Hornady are in the mood, how about a smaller-bore lever cartridge too? Something like a .257 or a 6.5mm or 7mm on this case?
