.338 Snipe Tac

Is there anyone on this board with direct experience or who owns a rifle chambered in .338 Snipe Tac? I'm interested in the cartridge because of the ballistics, a 300 gr. Scenar or Matchking at 3300 to 3400 fps sounds pretty cool to me. I own a TRG42 in .338 Lapua and am considering a custom build using this chambering. The brass and dies don't look too difficult to get and the rest is standard fare.

It's a .408 Chey Tac necked down with a little less taper and slightly sharper shoulder.

looks cool, but the .338LM action in your TRG wont be ANY where near big enough for a wildcat 408CT

first is the 408 2nd is the 338LM

The first is a 50 bmg, second is a 408, and 3rd is a 338 lapua, then 300wm, 308 and 223. But I still agree that you will need a bigger action for anything 408 CT based.

I figured it was that...I had to do a double take myself, but as said their are actions out there for it, unfortunately not 338 based actions.

I have a .338 Allen Magnum that is very similar case design but by a different gunsmith. http://apsrifles.com/ I would go cheytac necked down to .375 " not improved" so there is no fire forming as you already have a .338

Pretty much would make an investment of 250 - 500 pieces right away so you had a life time supply

the weakest part of any wildcat is primer and brass options.

SHOT hopefully will give us some info on new options but for now, the companies making this stuff have all folded to some degree. Supply is very volatile and not much fun having a multi K wall hanger.
