Hi: I am trying to make a good load for a friend's 338 W.M. a bolt S/S sythetic stocked . I have tried 4 different powders with the 250gr Nosler Patition no luck. Any Ideas? It also shoots better from a clean barrel unlike my gun which needs a fowling shot to be consistant . Regards Dan

I've found Reloader 19 to be one of the better powders in my 338. It gives good velocity and accuracy over a variety of bullet weights, at least in my particular rifle (Win. 70).

Unless you are using completley inappropriate powder, or innapropriate powder charges, it's probably not the problem.

It could be the bullet, the rifle, the scope...

If it shoots well with good quality factory ammo, you can eliminate the scope and rifle variable.

What do you mean "no luck"? As in 2", 3", ?? Maybe that bullet/gun combo won't shoot better than 1.5". Try a different bullet.

My Rem 700 shoots the 250NP into about 1.25" with H4350, although I suspect it could do better. I haven't dicked around much with it, been using the 225's.

Hi: Sorry i forgot to post the group size it is over 2" almost 2.5" at 110 meters. I really expected better from what i have heard about the Browning a bolt but another friend donated 5 factory 225gr for a test this weekend. Thank's for all the help so far Regards dan

Try slowing it down a bit.

The 250 Nosler over 67-69grains of H-4831 or 69-70 grains of RL-19 always gives me good accuracy. The 225gr partition seemed to like 70-72 grains of RL-19 best. If the gun won't shoot any of those loads (reasonably well) something is wrong.

Check the scope and bases and have a look at the guard screws....Check the crown.
