So, I sent a 700CDL in 300 Win Mag off to Julien at Downrange Precision along with a Shilen select match 338 barrel blank.

Had him true everything up, chamber and install the barrel, and bed the action to the stock.

Got it back a few days ago, and it looked and felt great. Mounted up a VX 3 3.5-10 x 40 B&C, in QD Leupold mounts.

Threw together a couple of loads to try out, and also a few for break-in, and went to the range yesterday afternoon.

Did the shoot/clean for just a few rounds.....no copper after shot # 8, so enough already. By this time, I had it sighted in as well.

Fired a 3- shot group with the 210 Partition, chased by 75 grains of Norma MRP, and was greeted with a nice .78" C to C cluster.

Let it cool, and then fired a 3-shot group with the 225 Accubond, and 74 grains of the same powder.... .93" C to C.

Keep in mind, this is without any load development whatsoever, so there may be even better groups on tap here.

More testing soon. :)

I'm pleased, needless to say. Dave. [Pictures below.]

Eye relief was a bit long with the QD's, so I changed them over to a reverse front base and an extension front ring [STD type]

All is well now. obviously don't want to get too close to that eyepiece, lol.

Looks great and sounds like a real shooter :) Curious about what length your barrel is finished at?

BCB; The barrel is finished at 26" Some would prefer a shorter barrel, I'm sure, but I would like to see 3000 fps with the 210 Partition, and in a 24", that may be pushing it a bit.

Nevertheless, I loaded up some 210 Partitions with the new IMR 4451. Started at 66.5 and worked up to 68.5 The warmest load also shot the best, with 2 groups each right on the 1" mark.

I'm really at my target speed as well, since 3 shots Chronographed 2982, 2991 and 2988 at 20 feet. [nice spread, too, if it stays in that area.] :)

Regards, Dave.

Dave, Is that 4551 supposed to be the same as 4350. I know about 72 gr of IMR4350 used to be a dandy load with those 210 partitions.

Congratulations on your build; looks nice and it sounds like it shoots well too. What twist did you go with on your barrel?

I built a 338wm based off a SS New Haven Classic Model70 action a few years ago and have enjoyed similar results with mine. Try some 250's,they are a little slower but they fly well.

Neil; it is supposed to be fairly close to 4350. I may try sneaking up a bit yet. 26" Match grade barrel may yield nice numbers.

westcoaster; Thanks, It is a 1-10" twist. Since I am a lover of wood/blue, I went C-M instead of SS.
