.338 Win Mag - Loads for the Yukon?

Barnes 225 TTSX and h4350 is my go to load.
Cow Elk at 520, Bull Moose frontal shot at 251, WT Buck at 100 , Grouse at 10.
I've chose 225 in monometal bullet in case there is big Grizz around.

Andrzej, by any chance did you recover the elk bullet?

If so, what did it look like? I keep hearing from guys that the Barnex TSX does not expand at long range.

If you are a reloader I would shoot the 210 Nos. Part. and load them light with Hogdon 4895 so that she does not develop the flinch. I started my son out when he was 14 with light load 100 grain partitions in a .264 win mag until he grew into it. my daughter with a 6.5x55 and 100 grain partitions until she grew into it. Both kids are older now and have dropped lots of critters. I have yet to recover one of those partitions.

You haven't met Charlie's lovely daughter. She will have no trouble at all with a 338. Certainly not a braked one.

Charlie, I would load 225gr Partitions or Accubonds for her. They will work on everything, and you will be able to sleep well at night knowing she is toting them loaded at close to 2800 fps.

Charlie's girl is already shooting stuff that would make many men flinch,...... but she doesn't. That is the last thing he would be concerned about.

My model 70 338wm likes 225 nosler accubonds at max load. Great calibre, we got 2 big moose this year up north and it did a great job

Hunted for almost 30 years with a 338 Win mag shooting 250 grain Gamekings over 70.0 grains of IMR 4350.

They're a great bullet made for this cartridge, they have a high BC and hold together very well, and tend to be very accurate. This load carries 2000 ft/lbs past 500 yards, and just plain kills stuff, period. It also out penetrates a .375 H&H with 300 grain Gamekings, if both rifles are loaded to max listed pressures. And I'm not slighting the H&H; I killed my moose this year with one.

Lately I've also started using 225 grains SST's. They don't penetrate as quite deeply and are not as tough, but on a straight broadside shot, they kill much faster due to some level of fragmentation, and bigger wound channels. Gamekings don't do that.

I like the 225gr Accubonds or TTSX's. 210gr TTSX would be good choice as well.

I don't have a 338WM, but will add one to my collection of Sako m75 rifles when I find one. I shoot both 225gr noted bullets out of my 338-06AI.....not too far off from estimated 338WM velocities.
