I was able to run the load I have been using over a buddys chrony today. Found with the max load of IMR 4350 from the sierra book I'm only getting 2671 fps. My 338-06 is 1 fps slower at 2670. Has anyone had any luck using a slower powder to get the speed up a bit? The book shows it should be almost 2900 for that charge.

I might try the 225 gr SST's next.

Thanks!

How's your pressure? My .338 easily tops 2900 fps with 69'grains of IMR 4350 and the 215 grain Sierra. It isn't even max in most books.

I'm running 69 grains of IMR 4350, which is showing as max in the sierra manual. It does show higher loads in some other manuals...

Pressure is low so I can still go higher, any chance a slower powder would push higher speeds?

I'd turn up the heat with what you've got first. It'll probably wake up when you get to 71-72 grains.

I've used 78 grains of old style 7828 with the bullet, mostly because I've got lots of it. It worked too, velocity a little under 3000 if I remember correctly. My barrel is 26", there's a little free horsepower there.
