.338 win mags

Get the 338WM and don't look back. I prefer to use 225gr bullets. You should think about getting into reloading, factories are expensive.

I was told reloading is a waste of my time unless i plan on doing alot of shooting, because the cost of equipment and supplies wont be overcome if i dont shoot alot. I had the money for everthing in primo brands, but the salesman turned me off of it:(

If i do go ahead with it, the .338 will be designated to moose/bear only hunts. and i was thinking if i owned a .338 WM, then i can drop the weight in the bullets used in my 7mm Rem Mag, and use it for a more long range deer gun, like 130 grain or 140 grains, instead of the all around 160 grains im using now. Good idea? The .35 Whelen i got is designated Black bear hunting over bait and calling.

Thx for the tip on going with the Tikka LS over the Lite stainless, i didnt think the slight difference in weight would affect muzzle jump. Im not recoil shy, i actually like it. That macho feeling, heh heh:rolleyes:

i'd say to at least try a 4x12 top end bushnesll as well- i like the 4x12x40 better than the 3x9 for long range as my eyes aren't as good as they once were- AND BRING BACK THE 275 GRAIN SLUG,DARN IT- best bullet speer ever made for the 338-take a look at the numbers- better b.c than the 250 with just about the same velocity
 
At 45$ a box (federal premium partitions) it does not take many boxes to buy a starter kit, figuring a savings of 10-15 a box, just not a 500 dollar dillon. I don't imagine that your 7 mag is much cheaper. Though I will not lie to you in the long run you won't save any money, you'll just shoot more :).

I called Speer and they gave me a contact for the last 275's they knew of.
There's close to six full boxes sitting on my bench just waiting for me to get another 338-06!:D

Still not to hard to find at the gunshows too.

I imagine you should have all the bases covered in north america with a 7mag and a 338WM.

I would recommend trying to find someone who will let you use their reloading equipment and just supply your own dies. You will be suprised how fast the $$$ disappears shooting anything with a belt on the case. Dealers think they are made of gold.

you have a .35 whelen, why would you want to buy a .338mag for moose and bear? :confused: planning on shooting over 300yrds? inside that yogi and Bulwinkle arn;t going to know the difference between the two.
 
probably about the same time it dawns on somebody that's it's velocity, not bullet diameter that makes killing power-

The 338 thumps you pretty good. I found that it whacked me harder than my 375. It would shoot 200 grainers into one hole with a light charge of imr 4831.When the charge was increased the group size also increased. When I finally got it loaded to the eyes the group tightened right up again. The 250 grain would also shoot sub minute of angle, only when loaded hot. the 275 grain speer would shoot 1 inch to 1 1/4 off of the bench too if loaded to maximum.
 
That depends mine is and older ruger 77 all-weather before I had it ported I could barely get through 1 box of rounds, pretty nasty. Now it's pretty mild though very noisy. In a properly stocked gun of decent heft it wouldn't knock your fillings out but you'll know something happened.

like the guy who said that why do i need a .338 WM if i have a 35 whelen. Simple, if the wifes says go for it, im a gonna do it:D

how are the factory recoil pads on the Tikka rifles? I sure like the R3 on my remmi's

If you already have a 35 Whelen you are within spitting distance of the 338 Win Mag...my Whelen does 2725 with a 225 Partition. A real step up from the 35 Whelen is a 375 H&H...or a 416 Taylor....PM me sometime if you want to shoot my 416...this is a step up from a 35 Whelen:D

AB Bigbore, your wife will let you buy another gun? why waste that on a .338, after all your name is "Alberta Bigbore" and you don't own a Bigbore! so use this purchase to correct that!

the .416 Taylor would be a sweet addition to any safe :D

for the love of god don;t let it be a Tikka either!
 
i saw Rembo has a 416 taylor for sale. i have never heard of the calibre, and i dont reload:D

i used to hunt with 45-70's, and that is how i got my name on other boards, but plain old Bigbore was taken here already:(

maybe another 45-70? 450 ? :p

i saw his 416 for sale thread a little to late, and only have so many funds left for more guns this month:mad: Bought a .410 SxS from this site just recently (((i know i know, far cry from a bigbore)))

that is why i thought a tikka T3 Laminate, cuz i can get a new one ordered for about $700
