338 win

You can use reduced loads with 4895 also in an old speer manual I saw reduced loads with 4198

The minimum reduced load for H4895 for a 200gr jacketed bullet / 338winmag is 60% of 60gr, or 36gr. The 60gr max comes from a Hodgdon reloading manual.

I've never seen the reduced loads recommendation for 4198 documented, but it's one of the powders I am comfortable "loading down" to some degree.

I would not use a 60% H4895 load in Magnum cartridges... move up to 70% and start there, IMO and IME... start at 44.0 grains H4895, I doubt that you will need to go lower.

I've used 60% loads in 300winmag and some other "magnums" as per Hodgdon's guidelines. I don't see an issue except maybe practicality - 308 or 30-06 would work better for reduced loads.

Good info here. Got a 338 a few weeks ago. The wife & I went to cabelas last Friday to Christmas shop, all I grabbed was 2 boxes of 338, she says "that's it!" When the stuff ran through the till she was a little shocked...lol. Told her to get me dies for Christmas, to save money. I've only shot 250gr so far, the abolt likes it, the shoulder knows that an event just happened...lol
