338 WM with cheapo 3-9x40? Tough enough?

I just picked up a 338 WM for some select hunts. I decided I only need a 3-9 magnification for the range Ill be using it.
I do have one of those cheap 3-9x40 bushnell package scopes kicking around... Will that thing hold from the kick of the 338? Ive only used them on a 223 and it worked fine.
Trying to save for another rifle and not really trying to spend money on this rifle right now.

Anyone trust these on a large calibre?

I will get some nice glass later but will this do in a pinch?

If it was going on a 223 or maybe....a 243 (that would be pushing it), it'd probably be good enough until you get a better scope. Going on a 338 you might as well place bets with your buddies as to how many shots until it craps out. They might last 7 shots, or up to 20 shots before going wonky. I'm pretty sure I destroyed at least two of them, maybe three.

I had a bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40 on a 338 win mag for a few years, it never lost zero but never picked up much light at dawn and dusk. I was surprised that it lasted shooting factory 225 and 250 grain bullets. That same scope was previously on a 30-06 then a 7 rem mag before the 338. I think you can pick them up on sale now days for around $200-$250, that's pretty good bang for your buck with reliable guts in cheap glass.

I don't know if I would use my Bushnell 3-9 Trophy on a .338WM. I have it on my 30-06 and its great for deer hunting. If you want a 'Less Expensive option' I would go with Nikon. They make a VERY good product for a cheaper price and they have warranties and will have no problem standing up to larger calibres. I would use one of there better lines like the monarch 3. I am going to be using a Nikon Monarch 3 on my .338's. The cheap 3-9 will work for awhile, but it could/will break..... just remember that
