338LM post ladder test.Group shot.BERGER BULLETIN!!

My advice is that you seriously re-consider using varget in the .338 Lapua. Where did you find data that shows varget being used? Thats a pretty quick powder to be using in a .338 Lapua, especially with heavy bullets. Velocities at acceptable pressures will be slow to say the least and if velocity is good your pressure is likely gonna be something to be very concerned about. H1000, Retumbo, RL-25, Viht N570, are some of the powders that will be better suited to the cartridge.

I totally agree I use 89gr h1000 behind a 300gr smk in lapua brass with federal 215 magnum match primers. coal 3.700 on the nail. it will print 1" groups at 300yards if I do my part. h1000 is a very stable powder it doesn't react much to tempature. ive yet to try rl25 and retumbo but there on my list of things to do. I cant get a steady supply of viht so that's out of the question

This was my thought as well. Varget doesn't seem appropriate. I'm having great success with IMR7828SSC and 250 grn Bergers. It's also cheaper than most slow powders.... And it's one I can still find!

He refers to having two rounds that won't chamber and 88gr of varget in limbo. I'm going to assume he means something like say a 308 win with 44gr loaded. Varget is not for the 338 LM.

Hey Kelly,

I didn't get all the way through this thread (I'm running on 4 hours sleep). I just wanted to comment on a couple little things for your info. I was also concerned about the nose slump issue in the Gen I Hybrids, I spoke with Mr. Litz over on Sniper's Hide and asked if my .338 Hybrids could be Gen I's and he assured me that they are not. Basically, unless you purchased these projectiles off the shelf in 2010, you should be good.

Also, another little tid-bit from Bryan regarding seating depth:

Good luck, mine are working great!

Ok, here is an update.

Finally got the Scenars , Canada Post be damned!! 3 parcel notices over 2 1/2" weeks all with my address but not the right name!!!

Anyways.

I have found the issue with the setup.

After initial instal, torquing , test loads, re-tighten, test again, re-tighten again.

Took a closer look at the rings, it did appear that the scope slide a second time even after tightening everything again.

I figured I would remove and recheck everything , well, my risers were also rattled loose after multiple tightenings.

I have my next batch of test loads with the Scenars ready to go and tomorrow will order some taller rings and omit the risers.

Although I am not happy about the outcome I am a bit relieved that I did find a weakness.
