340 wby mag loads

I have one built on a Rem 700 action. 26" Ron Smith gain twist barrel. I get 2940 fps with 250 gr bullets, and 100 meter clover leafs with 250 gr Speers. I've been trying to find a premium bullet load that groups as well, but no luck so far. Not at that speed anyway. With Noslers I can get that kind of accuracy, but at 2800 fps, which kind of negates the whole purpose of the 340. One of my favorite hunting rifles, but it doesn't weigh much, and it kicks like a mule. - dan

340

Cheap Hornady 225 spire points over 81.5 grains IMR 4350 with a mag primer. My gun cloverleafs this load all the time and everything I've hit died! Have tried and do use all the expensive stuff but my gun loves the cheap one.

Don't have one now but have had 3. Mine allways worked great with IMR4831 with both 250s and 225s. 250s at 2900+ and 225s at 3100 fps.

Cool cartridge but a kicker. I would stick with 250's and IMR 7828. 86 grains with a good quality lead core bullet is usually accurate.

my load is 88g of AA3100 in the hornady 250g or the nosler partition 250g in a sako with 24" for a velocity of 3000fps(with hornady). Shot many moose, elk, deer with these two loads.

Thanks for the replys so far I have been using imr 7828 I have worked up to 86.5gr and have had good luck so far out of three shots two touching and the third 5/8 "c/c I am hoping to close that up by 1/4" with adjustments in col at 100 yards. but so far so good, this out of a weatherby accumark with 225 accubonds, I will be changing to swift a-frame and going from there. This past weekend I had three three shot groups I could cover up with the Tooney but stil trying for a quarter! any and all thoughts well come Jim..
