340 Weatherby ?

That makes perfect sense to me, as it looks as though the 338 LM and 340 have virtually the same powder capacity. Too many people think the 338 LM is a full 416 case but it is not and is shortened significantly, bringing it's capacity somewhere in line with the 340. I do not, nor have I ever owned or even played with the 338 LM. It doesn't come in a rifle that interests me, but have checked out the cartridge and load data for it.
 
Dan - correct me if I am wrong here, but even though the LM and the Wby are similar case capacity, the LM should perform at a higher level due to the fact that it operates at a much higher pressure (which is ok due to the heavier brass).

What about the new .338 Norma Mag, what are your views on it?

Ahhhhhhh no, it's not long range hunting, no such thing. It's long range shooting/killing. A shot at 400 plus yards is long range killing. An animal spotted at 1000 yards, stalked to within 300 yards and harvested is called "the act of hunting".

Although I'm not taking sides in this debate, I love the Weatherby's and their cartridges. There is alot of splitting hairs on several cartridges in the 338 caliber and believe that many are ballistic twins, and no I never did own one, let alone shoot one. After reviewing my reloading manuals I think that all of them are great cartridges.................maybe one day, but I think with a muzzle brake .

Can't fin it now....I actually thought I had read somewhere that they were loaded as high as 72,000psi, but again, I will have to do some digging to quote a source.
