I’m
Looking at getting a 71 in .348 win. How is ammo availability and also reloading components. Bullets brass etc and I guess dies shell holder etc everything to make ammo for it
!!!!Check if that ammo with FTX bullets has standard length cases. Hornady 348 Win Ammo has brass that is shorter than standard length 348Winchester brass.. If you get the 348Win bug buy components every chance you get. When I got the bug I phoned just about every gun shop in Canada to see if they had anything in 348W.I got a lot of brass and old stock Hornady bullets that way. Barnes still makes bullerts for 348W, if you find any, buy them. Pricey, but Hornady 348 bullets were discontinued awhile ago and Swift bullets in this calibre are extremely rare in my experience. Have had good results with 255gr cast gc bullets in me Winchester 71a but no luck in Browning 71s because of their short throats.
Winchester used to run off some brass every couple of years or so (same with 32-40, 38-55, and 32 Special) but I don't know if they are still doing that. - dan
I just recalled Hornady still markets 348Winchester Brass. It comes in bags of only 20 and when I looked at it it I recall it was more expensive than Starline brass per piece of brass. I feel the Starline brass is better quality.Hornady sells 348Winchester ammo with their Flex Tip bullet BUT the brass is shorter than standard 348 Win brass to accommodate their Flex Tip bullet. interestingly not all calibres offered in flextip have the shortened brass. Not clear why.
