Been thinking of adding a 35 cal lever action to my battery, either a Marlin 35 Rem or a Browning Winchester 348 copy.

Obviously the 348 is more powerful but other than that does anyone have experience with the two rifles head to head?
 
Have not shot the Marlin 35 Rem but do have the Browning Model 71, 348 Carbine, love it. Fit, Finish & Feel perfect, extremely smooth action.
Most of my hunting/shooting is in the 150 yard range. Tossing out Winchester 200gr Silver Tips very effective & accurate.
 
You could also consider the BLR in .358 Win.

I have had Marlin's in .35 Rem and a Browning 71 in .348... I sold them when I got into a BLR Pre-81 .358 and Ruger M77 .358... I now have those two plus a M77 MKII Stainless .350 Rem Mag and Ruger No.1-A Whelen.
 
We're barely talking about the same thing with the 35 Rem in a Marlin and the 348 Win Model 71. Honestly when I first read the title I immediately thought of he 358 Win in a BLR. The BLR doesn't do much for me but you could probably buy 3 for the price of a Model 71, it will scope easier and shoot better than the Marlin and you actually stand a chance of finding ammo. I guess for most people that would make the most sense.
 
Only 358 that appeals to me is the Savage 99.

I don't see the Marlin 35 and the Browning 348 as being that different. I reload so as long as components are available I'm good to go.

I have had two blr.......and now they are associated with poor life events. They always seem too machine and industrial perfect....i associate lever guns with pre 64 32 win, some slop, patina, honest dings..... The other lever gun .....without old west thoughts is a 70yr old Model 99 lever in 308. Just never much for levers, never a 35 lever.
 
I went Marlin 336 in 35 Rem. Had 2, kept 1 due to it's vintage appeal to me. BOTH were shooters! I use the Hornady Lever Evolution factory ammo, eventually I will reload for it, but time is a precious commodity at the moment...

I also went with a vintage Marlin in 35 REM and could’ve happier
 
What do you plan to hunt with this rifle?
35rem is my favourite.
I use it on black bear and whitetail deer.
Myself, I go with a Rem760 pump but would love to add a Marlin to my cabinet.
 
I bought a remlin 336 in 35 for my 10 yr old son, did not have the dreaded problems most claim are wrong with them. I reduce the load with pistol bullets and work him up slowly for when he can legally hunt. Intended game is black bear from a tree stand and close shots on moose and elk.

Those guns leave me envious. I have no love for the dirty 30, but a lever gun in 35rem is a nice combo.

Yeah... the BLR is a different animal compared to a Winchester or Marlin... but it is a rifle and it does come in .358 and it does feed from a magazine, making spire points easier to manage... and it does carry nicely, and they are generally "hunting accurate." If you need a lever on a rifle, they do check off a lot of categories.
 
It’s all I’ve ever used. I think it’s perfect.
I bought two boxes of Leverevolution ammo a few years ago. I use 2 rounds per year on bear, two boxes should last awhile.
I use iron sights and just love it!
It would be simialr to 30-30 and 32sp, with just a slight edge.
 
hey- dont mind me but the 375 Winchester is pretty kewl, 336 do one aswell, i have the m94,... the .356 would be fairly kewler too for the 35 cal lever gun, peep sights or a aim pro jobby would see 150 yards no problem on those game?, thoughts?

I'd look for a used all steel BLR 81 in 358, no question. As hoytcanon mentions, it does check off a lot of categories.

- Very good removable mag system.
- Pointy bullets option.
- Easy to scope.
- Generally accurate.
- The 358 is easy to load for. Resize 308 brass.
- The 358 offers a sizeable velocity increase over the 35Rem.
- The 358 will allows for more bullet weights up to 250gs.
