.35 cal Rifles?

I will be packing a Marlin in 35Rem next fall to see how well it performs. Odd I do not see any mention of that cal even though it is an honest 35.

About five years ago, I want a dedicated Sambar Stag rifle. Subsequently I had my redundant* Remington 700 SPS stainless 243W re-barrelled with an Australian MAB in 358W. The barrel is 24" with a 1 in 12" twist, which is very capable of replicating minute of bunny accuracy. The preferred projectile is the 250gr Woodleigh PPSN punching out at 2320ft/s. It's a great light weight thumper that is very tame on the shoulder.

Although I have only harvested a few Sambar and Fallow eaters with the 358W, it has belted a quite a few wild pigs. The 358W with 250gr Woodleigh PPSN is a great penetrator with the bullet always punching through and exiting with shoulder shots. A collection of the few bullets recovered from large Boars; L-R 250gr Woodleigh PPSN (x3), and 200gr Winchester FNSN factory.

* as I always reached for the 7mm-08 instead. ;)

Why, yes, yes I was :)
Can you give a comparison of recoil to something like a .308?
I know felt recoil is quite subjective, but I wouldn't think it
would be too bad.

The one and only time I fired it was at the Salmon Arm shooting range.
I used the lead sled without any weight in it.
I am a wuss for recoil and the 15-20 rounds I fired didn't cause me concern.
I will use the tripod and sand bag next time out and get back to you.
I have since picked up some 180 and 250 grain bullets to try out.
I think I am content on the Hornady 200's though.
Not really prone to being furfraid..................:p
Amored is quite the term.
Not very often I pick up a rifle and it puts a silly smile on my face.
This one sure does. And the trigger isn't all horrible as they say.
Need to put it up against another one to know for sure whether it has
been worked or not.
H4831 has a lever that does the silly grin for me too.
His Marlin 44 mag. That is sure a nice set up he has there.
He is trying to tell me the scope is a 3X but I can't believe him.:D
The dang thing lets me group well.
Cheers.

For me it's my .444 Marlin. Big, silly grins, and it shoots as well
or better than I can. I imagine the .358 would be similar. A nice
lever gun, throwing biggish bullets without a lot of fuss or
bother.

I have a stainless Ruger in 350 Rem Mag. It's my baby. I put it in a canoe paddle stock with a Limbsaver pad and had factory Ruger sights installed on the barrel.

It shoots amazing with 225gr Sierras and I am working on a load using 200gr TTSX's. It always puts a smile on my face.:D

I have a steel recreiver BLR 81 in 358 Win, I shoot full house 225g Partitions at 2470fps out of it, kicks like my Tikka T3 30/06 with 61 gr R22 and 180gr Partitions @ 2800 fps. I installed limbsaver recoil pads on both though.
Going to try 250gr @ 2350fps this spring. I find it comfortable to shoot.
There is a 200gr Nosler Accubond just released I am waiting to try in it too :)

Reloading makes the 35cal world go round. Factory ammo is often scarce, expensive and underwhelming IMO. Hand loading is highly recommended.

35 Whelen is one of those calibers that has always intrigued me, I picked one up at the Renfrew gun show a few weeks back..... but at $49.94 for standard Remington factory 225 gr I'll be scouring for dies real soon!!
