I have shot them all at one time or another... only have Whelen's and RM's now... they will both handle any game in NA... particularly when handloaded.

35 Remington for 150 yard shots and in. On anything up to and including moose. That's only because i really like the cartridge. Next to no recoil and it generates enough power to get the job done well. All of those other cartridges can do it too. But the increase in recoil and lack of options in lever guns gets me going back to the 35 rem every time.

For the bigger bears and maybe bison, i would choose any one of the others listed if I absolutely had to choose a .35 cal. I'd probably go with a 375 H&H if i had a choice in the matter though.

Full Disclosure: I've never hunted bigger game than moose. So maybe my choice would be kind of dumb. I dunno.

I voted "other" since my choice would be the .358Winchester, simply because I like the cartridge and the short guns it works in. I'm amazed that there's no separate listing for this cartridge, while the .35/.338 (which I've never even heard of before) is in there.

You forgot the .35Sambar , If in N.A an had access an the prices of components an it was easy to do, id be tempted to have one of them bad boys

I own:
35 Rem - Marlin 336C
358 Win - Winchester model 88

Either will take any North American game though I'd want a guy with a loaded 458 Win standing right beside me if I was hunting Grizz or Brown Bear with either of the above guns and a roll of toilette paper and a pair of fresh underwear in my pack sack. ;)

Dad shot moose with an old Winchester semi-auto (can't recall the model) in 351 self loading caliber which looked like a pistol cartridge. The gun went to my uncle when Dad died.

I own
356 Winchester
358 Winchester
35 Winchester
358 Norma Magnum (x2)
35 Whelen

I'm a fan of the Norma since that is my newest of all of them. I have whacked a pile of game with the Whelen and think very highly of that cartridge, too. I feel the other cartridges just aren't powerful enough under all conditions.

Voted 350RM simply because I prefer short vs long action. However, loaded ammo and brass are somewhat hard to find. The Whelen is as good, and some things about it are better than the RM (brass & ammo availability)
If you don't mind long action, and you keep a fairly close eye on your dollars and cents, I'd go Whelen with not much thought. If you don't keep really close tabs on your dollars and cents, then I'd look at some of the other options (that's if you handload... if you don't, then you should ;)) If you want more juice, the Norma could be loaded down to Whelen levels, but the reverse isn't true (here's the dollars & cents and reloading thing).
I also run a short barreled 358 Win and like that caliber. I load a 200 grain at 2400 from a 16.5" barrel for my rambling rig. It's still a good step up from a 35 Rem, and I can form brass from the bucket loads of 308 lying around. Personally, I wouldn't go after moose with a 35 Rem. I know people have done it & will continue to do it. Simply a personal choice, I won't go into the why's on that one. I have nothing against the little 35 Rem. One of those in a ~16" barrel and handloaded would make a sweet little deer & black bear rifle for woods/timber hunting. But then, my 358 Win does that just a tad better ;)

Two of my three .358's used to be .35 Rem's... I agree that .358 is a much improved cartridge... and can be had in a lever action if you just gotta have one.

I didn't realize the amount of love for the smaller 35s. Glad I left an option for others. I prefer a long action myself but I admit I'm interested in the 350 rm if I go short and handy. The Whelen seems perfect but is so close to the 338/06 hence why I added the magnum offerings.
My favorite calibers are 25 and 45. Makes sense that I need a 35!

Always wanted a Rem 660 in 350 Rem Mag. Light and compact, and when handloaded, it would be ideal for any big game in this country.

Although ever so slightly under the standard bullet diameter of .358, at (.355-.356), for 35 caliber,a couple of my favourite rifles are European sporters in 9X57.Nice light rifles to carry but pretty much a handloading proposition only which is just fine with me.I must confess I have a soft spot for the 35 Remington as well though.

Who makes quality hunting bullets for the 9x57? I prefer the 9.3/57 and 9.3/62. Many good hunting bullets to choose from

That's worth repeating! .. I have 350RM and 35 Whelen and agree -- would like to try a 358W in a short light rifle havent yet. I dont need the 358 Norma - I have a 375H&H that has all that flexibility
