35% price increases at Boyd's, effective today. UPDATED

I just ordered a Prairie hunter with the coyote laminate custom, lop, Ebony tip and pistol grip cap and checkering. With the exchange rate, it came to $440. And I don't have it yet. I'm waiting to see if there is a brokerage or delivery fee when it comes in. All expenses aside. I'm anxious to lay my eyes on it. I'm going to be putting my CZ550 in 9.3 x 62 into it. Hopefully, I'll have it all set to go for the deer hunt. It's only expensive once and it's yours forever once you have it.

I'm going to do a 180 on this issue:

I just received a stock made of the "new" plywood*, and holy mackerel, what a difference.

I'll post a picture after the kids go to sleep. I think a Boyd's stock ain't what it used to be... in a good way!

*I'd been trying to order a $97 stock one evening, but the Boyd's website wasn't working. The next morning, the price was $134. Customer service ordered the old price, but shipping went from $45 to $57.

.

A few months ago, a lady a Boyd's told me that they were forced to switch suppliers of laminate. She said: "It costs us quite a bit more but we've noticed that the quality is much better".

Obviously, that cost increase in materials is now being passed on the end users. That's life for ya...

I have two "Black Pepper" stocks from old and new laminate suppliers and I would have to agree that the new is much better.

I now agree as well, though mine are Nutmeg.

Turns out their old plywood supplier, Rutland Hardwood burned to the ground in August 2014. http://www.rutply.com There is a notice on their website.

I wonder who the new supplier is?

I'm having issues just getting stuff from them...they cancelled my last order which was 2 stocks ($300+ order) due to "over demand" of those items....wtf?
They also emailed me saying due to this inconvenience, they would give me free shipping on my next order. So I placed the order, made reference to the email, and not a peep for a month. No charges, no your item is processing, nothing.

The free shipping probably was because they thought you were in the U.S.

i was planning on getting the pro varmint for my savage but after calculating the cost to $308 cdn then another $200 to bed it and fit it i opted to get another gun instead!
