Has anyone experimented with higher pressure loads in a suitable rifle chambered in 35 rem. I have a M600 Remington which I'm sure will handle higher pressures than the maximum listed for this cartridge. All I've fired from her is Winchester factory rounds with the 200gr power point bullet. I've got 40 or 60 new Win cases and a box of 200gr Hornady spire point and was wondering if anyone has a nice starting load for me. I need something for this deer season as I can't find any more Win ammo and both my :Dkids:D will be out this year so my back-up rifles will be in use-oh well, might just have to buy something else:rockOn:

"...can't find any more Win ammo..." Your local gun shop should be able to get it if their supplier has it in stock.
Don't load over max loads for any rifle. Hodgdon's site has lots of 200 grain loads.

best get yourself a 358....hot-rodding handloads is way too scary.....did some of that 25 years ago:runaway:

In the Hodgdon site, the highest pressure loading for the 35 remington, is 35,000 cup.
For the 308 Winchester the highest loads go to 59,000 cup.
The 308 Winchester is a popular cartridge for the 600 Remington.
Please tell me what the danger would be in loading the 35 Remington to considerable heavier pressure, if the cartridges are for use in a 600 Remington?

Years ago Layne Simpson published an article in Handloader magazine with 35 Rem loads for bolt guns and pumps. I'll see if I can find it and PM you the data.

I'd stay with powders that will be at a 90%+ load density for published loads (i.e. at 35K CUP) and work up from there. You're looking at powders like H4895, H335, and Benchmark. Powders like Varget, BL-C(2) and IMR4064 are already at near full cases with published loads, so there's not much room to work with. It's a small case and can never be a 358 Win.

With a 200gr, I'd work up and stop when I got to a full case, or about another 100 fps (+5%) over published loads, e.g. about 2200 fps using 41.0 grs of H4895.

RG, I have a Rem 600 in 35 Rem. also and also have the Handloader #98 that lists the higher pressure loads for the bolts and pump action 35 Rem's out there. I have tried a bunch of these loads and hunt with one of those loads for years, my load uses IMR 3031 with the 200gr Hornady Sptz bullet, it is devastating on deer and I believe it would do well on black bear also. No pressure signs in my gun and hardly any recoil either.
Hold onto that gun it is very rare in that caliber.

The .35 REM was designed to send a 200 grain pill at about 2200 fps. That is where it performs in an account to it's legend. If I wanted more I would buy a .358 or .35 Whelen. My model 8 Remington with factory Remington 200 grain Corelokts is deadly on deer. I suggest that you let the old load show it's ability.

I use moderate P+ loads in my strong modern Marlin in 35Rem using H4895 and 200SP_CLs. Brass is thin and I neck size only using Hornady's universal neck sizer. Alot are using Lee collet die to neck size. A bolt gun offers action strength but the brass is still a weak link so pressures may still need to be be reigned in. Here are several good discussions on the topic. "35Remington" on the Marlinowners forum has done alot of testing.
