Anyone out there reload 35 rem for marlin rifles. I have the newer Marlin 336 in 35 rem. The rifle shoots OK with the Hornady 200gr ftx bullets, but wanted to try the the Hornady 200 gr roundnose bullets. Loaded the bullets to the exact specs as in Hornady manual. Went to load the ammo into the rifle and found the handle doesn't close all the way to depress the trigger. I even seated the bullet lower and still the same problem. Anyone else encounter the same problem or is it the rifle or wrong bullet.

Try adjusting your sized die with a little more cam over pressure.

My 336XLR also has a VERY short throat. It shoots those 200 grain sierras and hornady RN bullets tremendously!

Do you mean you loaded virgin cases?

The lever is not closing because something is too long. Usually it means that you did not 100% size a fired case.

With cases that have to be 100% sized (such as my Winchester 94 in 30-30) I adjust the die so far down that the shell holder hits it. I push the case hard into the die and make sure I get a solid hit on the shell holder.

If these are virgin cases you either have the bullets hitting the rifling (check for marks on the bullets) or you have created a bump or bulge in the bullet seating process. This can be caused by over crimping. Try turning the seater die up a half turn.
