35 Remington

Ive had good success loading the 180 gr Speer with 3031 for deer. If you were going to use it for bear or moose I would go to the 220 gr speer. Hope that helps

Who is loading for the 35 Remington? what are you loading and how is it working for you?

Roman, I can help you out. Until a few months ago I had never loaded for the 35 Remington, either. Then I got dies for my Marlin 336 of 1957 vintage. I also had most of a box of CIL, Dominion brand ammo for it with 200 grain bullets, which was about the same vintage as the rifle, because the price, from a store, marked on the box was $5.45.
First thing was to see what those old Dominion shells were loaded to. Set up the chrono and discovered the 200 grain bullet was going on average, 2054 fps.
I look up Hodgdon's on line and see that the maximum load shown for 4320 powder is 38.5 grains, which they show at a velocity of 2020. So I load a few at 38.5 grains of 4320.
With 3031, Hodgdon's s show a max of 37.5 with the 200 grain bullet and they are shown as giving 2110 fps.
Back to the chronograph and here are the results.
200 grain bullet, 38.5 grains of 4320, vel. 1900 fps.-------120 fps less than Hodgdon's claim.
200 grain bullet, 37.5 grains of 3031, vel. 1907 fps.-------203 fps less than Hodgdon's claim.

I will now use one or the other of those powders at amounts which will give me a little over 2000 fps, what the rifle was designed for and what it did with the old factory loaded Dominion's.

I've loaded up a bunch and hoping one day warm to venture out that way and pound some off.
Put together some Hornady 180 gr spire just for trying out solo's.
IMR 4320 @ 38.5gr.

Curious to see how these pointy 180 saunter down wind.

Next time I push the bullets into the case, I think I will try using my 358
seater die.
For some reason these Lyman dies smoosh the lead tip a wee bit.
Don't recall this happening with my RCBS 358 die when seating the
pointed bullets.

Always something to garner one's attention.

Its a great old cartridge! I have used it for bears, deer, and moose. Effective on all of them.

I wish I had my Loading data with me, but no luck. Speer or Hornady 200 grain round nose bullets shoot great.

I have used H4895, H335, IMR4320, and Varget.

It seems that Lyman made seater dies for several different cartridges with a wee tiny seater stem that sometimes doesn't quite fit the intended bullet and for what reason I don't know.
I've encountered the same problem numerous times, pull the seater stem out and you will see what I mean..
