35 Sambar aka 350 wsm

Hoyt with your 375 and the 35 where abouts is your OAL coming in at roughly?

If your barrel has the the throat for it can you load the heavy’s out to 3.2ish OAL to take advantage of a long action? I know the wsm dosent suffer the short neck syndrome of a 300wm but iirc it’s not an overly long neck like the 30-06.

A small .375 might be a real good use for the several hundred 7wsm cases I’ve had sitting in the corner for years.

So... I gave it a whirl... longest OAL for this .375 WSM with the #3000 is 3.180"...

I wouldn't go much longer than that due for bullet engagement anyway...

I will not be changing from my 3.050" load that was so consistently accurate. If you really wanted to maximize the OAL, you could easily lengthen the throat... for me with this rifle, I was going for a solid hunter with 400-500 yard capability carrying a good payload... so looking for more than the two loads that I currently have is unnecessary. The rifle feeds perfectly, and the Alaska Arms Coffin Magplate gives me four rounds down.

If one was really hot for a short action. 358, the 6.8 Western case would be an option... I have never seen one, but I am sure someone out there has already thought of it and done it. .358 Western sounds cool... damn winter blues.

That’s pretty dang cool, thanks for taking the time to put that together and take those pictures.

Certainly wouldn’t want to seat them out much further, your preferred load likely has the BT of the bullet in the case and that’s about it. Certainly not interfering much with case capacity.

See above... the WSM case does beat both the .308 and /06 cases. Is it necessary? Only the shooter can answer that... but it is more "funner." Some like to express their individuality in their gear... I like different stuff, all while conceding that it does little different than other available options, still... "fun."
yep, this topic could be nit picked all week, an then some- By "Easier" one would say that availability of Dies, for example- cheaper an proberly easier to find- Brass may be on par with each other but ones often cheaper again. Amount of powder to produce "a similiar" powerhouse-
Nosler data may say 2600fps with 250s in a Whelen but some talk of 2700 or so with Alliant powders? this is where we could nit pick for the week--- but it is suprising the .308 does just as well as a 30-06 in the field :) in realistic, off internet forum results.

i agree with cool factors in chamberings, i understand the Whelen is "old" an not new nor cool an I do not understand the OPs position ,need or wants. :)

I had a 9.3x62 and a 35 whelen in the same safe for a while an not once did one feel more than the other - exception of weight of the rifles... m77 V t3...

the Sambar name is by far the Best ever name for a cartridge, fits right up my alley but for "ease" of bits and pieces a .325 WSM going to do everything it needs an then some, but also my 35 Whelen in the Safe is just as up to the Task as a 'new .325" would be :)

to the OP,by all means, go different, go cool an all that....but just remember, The Whelen is the Prince of .35 cartridges ;)

No problem...

I'm getting 68.0 grains of CFE-223 in the case with the Speer 300, so it is moving along pretty good. The 235 TSX is doing 2900 fps.

I built a 35 Sambar a few years back. I love it. I have a previous thread on it. Just do a quick search.
My hunting load is the Barnes 200 grain TTSX at 3000fps with a healthy dose of R17. This was a published load by a gun writer from a number of years back. My gun is a savage action with a fixed ejector and proper bottom metal. I have a 20 inch KS Barrel on it. I like the handy nature of the shorter gun. I used a 1-12 twist.

I have the chambering, barrel shortening and assembly done by Dennis Laird at goballistic gunsmithing. I throated mine for the Sierra 225gr which it shoots great but prefer my Barnes bullets. He bought the reamer so he’d still have it.

I have a 3/4 MOA Whelen I built myself with a shilen barrel but it mostly sits in the safe. The extra jam of the 35 WSM is significant when longer shots on elk and taking moose.

I have a fair bit of my own data for the cartridge that has been very safe…. In my rifle.

On second thought... it should probably be called the ".358 Eastern," cuz that is where it will get used.
