.35 W.C.F. info

I use .405 Winchester brass made by Hornady that I ran thru my Redding Dies and If I remember right I had to trim them just a bit. For bullets I was in on a group buy on castbullets for a 358318 clone that drops bullets at .361 and about 255 grn and I run it with 38.5 gn of IMR 3031. Nothing scary just nice mild load and it does great at 100 yards (1.5 " for 5 shots)
 
How do you find the Hornady brass? I heard it wasn't very good quality but I don't have any experience personally.
 
Hornady brass really runs the gambit from crap to awesome. I believe different cases are made by different subcontractors.

I had a bunch of their .30-30 cases from FTX ammo and all the primer pockets where significantly too shallow.
Their .308 Match brass is just great and I love it. Tough and very consistent.
Their .338 LM brass is known for being too soft and sticking in the chamber of some rifles with their factory loads.
 
The .405 brass was excellent. I recently picked up some new 45/70 brass and 10% had primer pockets that I had to add a drop of super glue to keep the primer from moving around.
 
I just fireform 30-40 Krag brass, lots of it around and then load the 220 gn Speer flat tip bullet.....the neck comes out a little short but totally functional. My 35 won't accept a 405 rim in the chamber so I checked out the drawings and found the Krag case to be the closest. It would be nice if they were .050 longer but they work and my 95 shoots very well with this case and bullet. It is one of the most impressive cartridges available in the 95, accuracy and energy wise, in my opinion. I load a medium load right from CoW of 50 gns of 4895 behind the 220 and they list 52 behind a 200 and 50 behind a 250. This rifle shoots POA out to 200 mtrs...........like I said it is an impressive cartridge.
 
Well that's exciting. I'm planning on cleaning up this old rifle this weekend while I wait for my reloading components to show up. I found some brass from Buffalo Arms. It's expensive but I think I bought enough to last me awhile. I'll try out that recipe and maybe take this old girl out for deer or bear this Fall. I'm quite a. 35 buff and have always wanted a 95 in that calibre.
 
Let us all know if you get the brass from Buffalo. They quit sending brass internationally quite a while ago and I would be very interested if they have resumed doing so.

I form my 38-56 brass from 45-70 but it's quite a process without proper factory "forming dies". Would be nice to be able to just order some for a change.
 
I used 30-40 krag brass. I also order the 43rd edition of the Lyman reloading manual from Cornell Publication. It has reloading data for the 35 W.C.F.
