Hey guys just got my TSX 225 grn for my 35 Whelen .. anyone got a good starting load? any for RL 15 or let me know. thanks

Start with 55-56 gr of RL15 and work up. My load with 225 Noslers and Sierras is 58 gr for just over 2700 fps out of a 23" barrel.

you have a very fast barrel...my 24" Whelen did 2725 with 60grs of Rel15 and the 225 Partition.

Yes, it is a very fast barrel. When I started developing loads for the rifle, I worked up to 61 gr of RL15 and got some strings that averaged 2803 fps on my Crony Delta. This was not an isolated instance and I started to doubt the chronograph. Fortunately, I friend was with me that day who had his Oehler set up. I ran a 3 shot string throught it for an average of 2802fps. Pressure signs(bolt lift, primers, etc) were normal.

The downside of this high velocity was very short case life. I had a head separation after only loading the case only three times so I backed off to 58-59 gr.

With 57 gr of RL15 and 250 gr Hornadys, my MV is 2600-2630 fps.

I got a fast barrel/tight chamber on mine as well. My load is 55gr of RL15 for 2700 fps out of a 22" barrel with the 225 TSX.

What is a fast barrel ? is it by the rate of twist? mine is 1-16" remmy mod700. with a 24" barrel. thanks for the info guys. Can't wait to thump a Black Bear with it here once I get a good load.

What is a fast barrel ?
Some guns just shoot faster than others with the exact same loads - so they are often said to have a "fast barrel". Barrels and chambers vary - so velocities from some rifles can be much faster or much slower than the "norm". You gotta chronograph loads in order to know this, as there is no reliable way to predict a fast or slow outcome.
