35 Whelen Boom Sticks, what do you have?

Going to give the new 35 whelen a go on spring bear. Anyone with experience with the 250 core lokt, are they too tough? I’ve got 200’s on hand too.

The 250 CL are great on bears... I use the 250 Partitions in my .35 Whelen and .350 Rem Mag.

Could you please elaborate on your preference of 358Win>35 Whelan? Reason, I have a 358Win (Savage99 Brush Gun) and always like a reason not to covet a 35 Whelan rifle.

Holt has covered most of it, less recoil and powder cost, felt recoil, my .35 Whelen is a M700, my .358 is a Ruger M77, just sold my .358 TD BLR at prophet river, this week, I find more felt recoil in M700 stocks, than ruger or Sako, must be a fit difference,
The .358 win loaded stiffly, with a 200 gr or 225 gr, 2650-2500 range, has plenty of performance for the ranges i shoot game at.

Ruger 77
Model 7600 rifle
Model 7600 carbine.

I found a bunch of Federal Bearclaw 225s a few years ago and bought them all.

Seem to shoot good in all my guns.

I picked this up used a month or so ago.
It's 1989 production. I believe it was likely a BDL but is in a CL stock now.
I haven't got around to shooting it yet.

The scope is a Leopold Vari-XIII, 2.5-8x.

I have an M77 Whelen and a No.1-A Whelen... great cartridge, I like 250 Partitions over CFE-223... with the current prices of Partitions, I use the Speer 250 HC's for general shooting and light deer and then rezero with Partitions before a hunt... POI only shifts a couple inches @ 100, from HC to Part.

I used those 250gr Speers in 3 or 4 7600s over the years and another 700 with a custom bbl. They shot well in all my rifles, but I only did get to shoot one moose with them. I'd use them for moose without a 2nd thought.

No 35s of any sort in the safe these days. I'll be slummin' a 7x57 or 30-06 next time a moose tag comes my way.

Yeah, the 250 HC's will do just fine on moose... but I tend to get more serious for moose and big bears and don't mind flinging the Partitions, of which, I have boat loads.

P.S - I am not sure you are allowed to call carrying that .275 Rigby "Slumming!"

I checked the price of those 35cal Partitions on X-Reload and just about spit my teef out when I saw it.

The 7mm 160gr NPs worked fine on a small moose in NFLD during the covid exclusion of American sports to these parts. :)

I've got about 8 loaded rounds left for mine.

They are Partitions!

Though there might be a sniff of rust in the barrel end I'm going to blast that out this week!!
