Does the rebore involve rechambering the rifle for the new cartridge?
Do you need to supply the chamber reamer for more unusual chamberings?
There’s really no cost difference starting with a good M98. There is or was a good VZ24 action on the EE for under $400 if memory serves. Or pick any Mauser sporter and rebore. Frankly it would be goofy to do a 783 or Savage in a nice handmade stock, like putting Rita MacNeil in a really nice dress and calling her Shania. She’ll get lots of looks, just the wrong kind.
A few days ago, I was searching custom rifles online line and found a matched pair of full route custom rifles built on left hand Savage action. Both were very nicely done but in the end were still just Savages. Kinda like building a million dollar house in a trailer park.
OTOH .... A simple rebarrel on a 783 with factory walnut stock would be cheap and easy and still have one of the nicer trailers in the park without overspending the neighborhood.

You know you really wanted a 338-06, right?Very nice rifle, bud, you should used it for your Camp Wainwright elk last year.

That is a very nice rifle, with clean lines. Double Gun did a great job on the sights... very nice design.
