LOL---i dunno, I own both actually.
A Ruger hawkeye and a Tikka t3 ..

The down side to the Ruger was its a heavy gun, no two ways about it.. it now sits ina Ramline stock, still same weight. Thats why the 9.3x62 come along, i could get the same horse power in a lighter gun for 'all-day hunting' but at the end of the day my particular T3 weighs more than others i rekon, its like 3.8 kg an the Rugers like 4.4kg, i might be of a bit but sounds close enough for now........

i use 250gr in both, one bonded an the other cup an core , at 2400 or so the 250 grainers work an thump the big deer well imo, its a good bush stalking rifle where a long shot is 250m, an typically 100-150m.

Whelens are Cool, i kind of think often over looked by other cartridges for those seeking to do what its best at..?
 
I had one in a Rem 700 CDL, shot remington factory 200 grainers pretty good, and 225 grain partitions in my handholds were generally 3/4-1". Never killed anything with it, but my buddy who bought it has downed a couple deer, one big bull moose and three bears, all pretty much dropped in their tracks or went only a few steps. I have asked to buy it back, he says I can have it again when he leaves for the hunting fields in the sky.
 
I used a Brno 98 action on a barrel I bought from Numrich Arm's about 25 year's ago. I remember when the barrel showed up in it's tube wrapped in blue plastic protective mesh.
It sit's in a laminated thumbhole stock
 
I have both as well (Rem 700 Classic in 35 Whelen & CZ 550 FS in 9.3x62). They are both exceptionally accurate.
The Whelen loves the Sierra 225gr Spitzers, & Speer 250gr HCSP. Groups are less than an inch at 100yds
225gr Gamekings are plenty bullet for deer & moose.

I talked member here SuperCub out of his and while I may not hunt with it this year it is wearing a vari xII 2-7 and I'm loading up a few 225 grain gamekings and 250 Hornady's to see if either will shoot. It may come for a deer hunt or for black bear once that opens in September. No Moose hunting for me this year.
Built on a remington action, stainless barrel and a B&C stock.

Owned it for close to 4 years now and it has taken 2 Texas hogs, 4 bears and 3 deer. Recovery varied from 3 to 18 yards.

I have a custom rem 700 built by Dennis Sorrensen. The good late 70’s action, #3 contour Benchmark barrel at 22”, mountain ti B&C stock, Talleys and a Leupold Vx3 2.5-8x36- all gun-kote black. Shoots TSX 225’s

I've owned a couple Mausers built by Art Radke in Renfrew, loved them but got bored and traded them off.
Kept the dies brass and bullets because I know it's just a matter of time and I'll get another.

Sounds like a solid, well built, practical hunting rifle!
 
I own a custom 35 whelen built on a winchester m70 action with a semi-heavy 22.75" bevan barrel with recess target crown, all sitting in a beautiful winchester featherweight dark red stained stock. It's got a pachmeyer pad on it. Sitting on top is a leupold vx-2 3-9x40. I've used this gun for the last 10 years on elk, whitetail, mule deer, and moose. It's thwacks animals hard. I shoot primarily remington factory ammo in the 200 and 250 grain core-lokts. It is a very accurate rifle. It is my go to when it comes to killing stuff.
 
I've shot about 20 elk and several other large critters with my Whelens. They work exceptionally well. Most of my experience was with a Rem 700 but some with a custom Ruger 1A and lately more with a Sako AV Classic. Really like the cartridge, perfect for most of my hunting. I also have been using a 9.3x62, and other similar cartridges. The advantage to a bullet of 250-300 grains going 2300-2600 fps is decisive kills on animals with heavy bodies and big bones, with little meat loss. Works for me.

yeah i agree, i shot a big heavy stag this morning with the "36 whelen ackley" (9.3x62) , 250gr at 2400 an i banged it on an angle behind the shoulder an bullet lodged in the neck.. it dropped at the shot from 150m max, i use smaller cals and these big deer seldom drop to them but the whelen an bigger seem to smoke them with good authortie!
if you can handle it, they a great big game gun, more suited to the Stag/Male species, often being much bigger
