35 whelen project ideas and help(now 9.3x62mm)

The 270 Speer is all I load in my CZ 550 FS 9.3X62. This is without a doubt the best all around bullet in the 9.3X62. I have killed a couple critters with it including the largest mammal we have to hunt in Canada......the Atlantic walrus with the 270 gn Speer. I believe this bullet was designed for the 9.3X62 and the 9.3X74R. It gives a realistic trajectory to 300+ meters, it holds together very well and penetrates like a partition but expands at 2600 FPS muzzle velocity. I won't use any other bullet in my 9.3X62 ever, and it shoots sub MOA in my rifle.
It doesn't stand up to over 3000 fps in my 9.3X300 WM but I have 270 gn Matrix and 286 gn Parts for that rifle. I cannot recommend the Speer highly enough in the 9.3X62, it does everything just perfect............at least in my rifle............
 
Since his decision has been made and he's going to build a '62, to further derail this thread has anyone here shot any big game using the 320 or 325 gr bullets?

I am annealing and sizing a pack of brass tonight, and thinking I might try them on a bison this winter. I am sure they will work, just wondering if anyone has used them.

What powder are you using for hose Speer 270s? I have 500 of them raring to go, just as soon as I get my .366 Wagner from the smith!

Over the past 40 years I have used Nobel #44, IMRs 3031,4895, 4064, and 4350, Varget, Re15, Ball C2, and quite a bit of CF8502. They all worked.

Ball C2 really makes the '62 sing. Hodgdon shows 66.0 grains gets the 270 Speer loafing along at a pretty impressive 2548 fps and only 47,400 CUP. I will leave it to you to discover what your rifle can do at 55,000.

Apparently the real deal is Re17 which I have not tried. Where is Bob Mitchell, bigbores.ca, when you need him?

A cartridge in the bullet weight/velocity range of the 9.3x62 seems like a better match for bullets with lead in em. In my way of thinkin anyhow.

Ouch! Some truth there ........ We were joking around the table after my last trip there. I told Hannah that if we moved to the Yukon, they'd give her a free pony. She wasn't buyin' it. Alex has said that she regrets not looking into that position in the ER at your hospital.

yeah, something like a partition or some sort of bonded. It seems there is limited options for the 9.3, lots of manufacturers seem to be out of stock for this caliber for much of whats out there.

I would like to try something like an accubond or interbond in the 250 to 270 range, my rebored steyr doesnt really like feeding the more blunt nosed 286 grain ppu ammo as much as the pointer 30-06 rounds it was designed for.
 
I chose 286gr Nosler Partitions at 2450 fps MV as a hunting load for my 9.3 (22" 1:10 barrel). Not a core-bond design but should work pretty good at medium speed impact levels and shouldn't lose too much weight from fragmentation. Has a pretty decent ballistic coefficient of 0.482. :)

in my test there is more left from the speer than the partition but it was only tested in water ...

soft foam in the magazine can help ...

Just so you guys know you are evil horrible people i have literally spent 3 days watching video's and reading everything i can find on the 9.3x62mm i have become a true cult member already
