I think I found a caliber that's all I need in Central Alberta! 35 WHELEN! Having so much fun finding info about this round & caliber!

Yup, it's a great round.
If you haven't worked out a hand load yet, the factory Nosler 225gr AB loading is excellent, and you end up with some good brass after.

Been playing with Sierra's 225gr Spitzer BT in my Rem 700. Got a couple of loads that shoot sub MOA.
Also have a 444 Marlin that shoots sub MOA at 100yds with both 240gr and 265gr bullets. Area I hunt the 444 is perfect. If it was slightly more open I would use my 35 Whelen, or maybe my 9.3x62, or maybe the 7x57, or 7x64, or...decisions...decisions!

i have a 2.5-8 on mine and the balance is fine.

After the load dev. is finished, I may take that scope off and replace it with a Leupold 4x33mm. Will save a bit of weight and have an even smaller scope atop it.

My old original Whelen wore an ancient 4X Leupold and in spite of trying newer more powerful optics I really never felt the need for more glass.
After a successful Pronghorn hunt I was chatting with other hunters and I had the slowest rifle and lowest power scope of the bunch.
The boys with the 264s couldn't believe that someone would even consider hunting Antelope with a Whelen, but it worked for me at that time...

Well here she is with new scope! Leopold VX3-2.5X8X36
Still fits me well, I'm happy with the change!
