I suppose your right. I just like the Whelen better and probably look for reasons to justify my choice. :)

.358 Winchester, .350 RemMag, .35 Whelan, .358 Norma or STA, don't matter which...I just walked back into the control room from looking at two bears here at the plant and one of the field op's just called in another sighting (first ones this year) Any of the above will do the trick nicely :D Spring is officially here :rockOn:

That's been my experience in the guns in these calibers that I've owned (three 350s and two 35 Wh's). I built a 350 on a 98 so that I could set the bullets out, just to see what it would do, and I have no problem getting 2615 fps with any 250 gr bullet out there, with some it will break 2700, but not by much. I would say the 350 is a ballistic clone of the 35 Whelen AI or the 35 Whelen Brown version (half way between the 35 Whelen AI and the 35 Gibbs) . FWIW. - dan

Right on Dan. When I owned a .350 Remington, I did not have access to a chronograph, so like most of us, I had to work out my velocity based on drop tables. I suspect that my loads were in the 2400 - 2450 range with 250 gr bullets. From my perspective, the only bullets which make sence in a medium bore are heavy bullets. Bullets up to 220 grs are the norm in .30 caliber cartridges, so the only way to increase performance from .30 caliber levels is to increase bullet mass. To reach acceptable velocities with 250 - 300 gr bullets in the .350 Remington, the bullets must be seated out, or as stated by BC Will, the advantage over the .358 winchester becomes minimal. Therefore a .350 Remington is at it's best when built on a '06 length action.
 
The 350 is faster by a bit...I have had both...still have the 350 in a 700.

I had a factory Ruger 77 MkII 350 last year that actually chronyed over 2700with a 250...believe it or not......haven't chronyed the current 350 yet...my 24" Whelen would do 2725 with a 225 with no pressure signs...think I could have gone up a grain or two.

Which do I prefer...I don't know...I think I might have to build another Whelen, this time with a 22" tube.. and do a real side to side comparison...
 
Some guys want the 700 short action of the 350 mag. for building custom short belted mags. Sold one to a guy that used the action to have a 6.5 belted short magnum rifle around it.

I believe it - a buddie of mine has an accurate top load using 250 Grand Slams @ 2700 out of his Rem M673/350RM.
