Does anyone out there have much experience with the 350 Rem Mag ?
My Model 7 CDL in 350 is a sweetheart . Shoots three Speer 250 gr Spitzers ( 2450 fps ) into just over 1" at 100 yds . I have a 2-7x 33mm Leupold with the LR reticle on it . I can hit to 350 yds by just changing dots .
Just wondering what bullets you have been using and their performance on game animals . I will be hunting WT and Mule Deer , Elk , Moose , Mnt. Goat and Bears with it. I have Speer 250's , Hornady 250's ( RN & SP ) , Hornady 200 SP , Sierra 225's and Nosler 225 Partitions . So far my gun seems to like the heavy weights . Anyone been using the Barnes TSX in .358 ?
My load is 58 gr. W 748 with 250 gr Speer

I have used many of those bullets in my .35 Whelen for some years. ballistics in the .35W are identical to your .350. I like the Speer Grand Slams for elk and moose, they are my "standard" bullet. They are too tough for deer, slow expansion can lead to long tracking jobs. Both the Hornady 250's are good, and open a bit quicker than the GS, and may be a better all around bullet. I killed my best bull elk with a Hornady 250 RN. I don't shoot the 200's at game. The Sierra 225's are a good target bullet but my experience (and many others ) is that they can be erratic on game. Sometimes blow up or just don't expand. The Nosler partitions are always good. Accuracy is second in importance to performance IN GAME!! I once had a Nosler 225 BT that failed to penetrate sufficiently on a rear-angling shot on a bull elk, but they do shoot nice on paper!

Stick with the 250gr Speers. They have been quite accurate in any 35cal I've shot them in and they have a VERY good reputation as a big game bullets.

There are members here on CGN from the Yukon that use them year in and year out in alot of different cartridges up to the 358NormaMag on the biggest game in NA. They swear by them. I take their experience as good advice.

I've had two 350s, still have one. The 25o Speer is my favourite bullet in this rifle. I built mine (the one I kept anyway) on a Mauser 98, which allows a longer COL. As the 350 case has slightly more case capacity, I can get a little higher velocities out of it. They are great killers though, probably one of the most under rated hunting choices out there. - dan

The Speer 250gr Hot Cor and Grand Slam both shot under 1" at 100yds in my .35 Whelen. I settled on the 225 TSX at 2700fps, also shoot under 1" and even more penetration than the 250's. Shot my moose with the TSX this year.

250 Speer hot core,I have used them for over 35 years in my 358 Norma with excellent results.I have never had even one bullet failure.

I've a 350 Mag in a Remington 660. Love it! I have two favorite bullets, Speer 250 Hot Cor and the Hornady 250 RN. I'm still workin on it, but I think I like the RN a bit better for the big stuff. I should try the 225 gr TSX though, I guess. :)

35 whelen

Like River Rat

I have been using the 250 speer hot core and the hornady 250 rn since 82 and have been getting 3/4" groups at a 100 yards with my rebuilt 98 mauser. They are the best bullets I've tried so far and have never lost an animal due to any failures to open or penatrate properly.

The other plus is the cost of the speers compared to some of the fancier bullets that don't do any better. :D

Congratulations on choosing a fine rifle/scope/cartridge combination. I have a soft spot for the .350 magnum. In the early '70's a M-700 .350 magnum was my first powerful rifle. The bullets available then were pretty limited compared with what we have today and mostly I shot Remington 250 gr Coreloks, but more on that in a minute.

The cartridge has one failing which is it's short neck. My 700, the M-77 Ruger and the custom Mausers noted above have longer magazines than your M-7's and the earlier M-600's. If you can seat out the bullets so the base is even with the bottom of the neck and have the chamber throat lengthened to allow for this; it will improve the performance of the longer bullets. If you are already at the limit of the magazine length don't worry about it. Functions trumps most other considerations.

Due to the short neck of the cartridge, ball powder might prove to be a better choice for you than extruded (although I loaded 3031 almost exclusively). According to Ken Waters, 56-58 grs of W-748 with a 250 gr bullet will give you 2330-2450 with a 250 gr bullet. He claims better accuracy was evident using a standard primer with 748 and better accuracy with a magnum primer with slower H-380. Because you need more of the slower powder, I believe 748 is the better choice in the .350.

Velocities of around 2400 fps are excellent for bullet performance with traditionally made jacketed bullets. There really is no need to go to a premium bullet unless you are attempting to maximize penetration on very large or dangerous game. My preference would be a 250-275 gr round nose for moderate range big game hunting, although .358" bullets heavier than 250 appear to be getting scarce. In my formative years I chose a semi spitzer, but in hind-sight the traditional spitzers do not perform as well on game as do the round nose bullets of equal weight.

Look no further - I've shot a few black bears with that bullet and approximate MV. The longest runner went about 18yds. I get the same good results using 250 HornadyRNs at that MV too. Speer 250s kill bears just as good in my experience out of my 356 (cut the bullet tips flat) and 358 at about 2150MV too.
You may want to try Reloder 15 in your 350 mag.
Yep - I use it in my 350s and like its performance- http://www.35cal.com/loading.html#660

My Ruger 350RM likes the 225gr Sierra with 58.0gr of IMR4064. 2630fps and less than an inch at 100m. I have only taken a mulie doe (LEH) but no tracking was needed.
